Make it yourself. At least you really know what you're getting. For the most part, it will be less expensive and healthier for you and yours.
This recipe calls for shea butter, but, a good substitute would be cocoa butter. When buying shea butter, buy the kind that has had it's natural scent removed (and make sure you only buy the descented). The opposite is true with cocoa butter. Only buy the kind that has it's natural scent--it's this really great chocolate mocha fragrance. Yummy! You can find these butters all over the internet. Also, you don't need a double boiler. You can use a microwave, but be careful. These butters melt fast--in seconds. Keep the temperatures low. And while your at it, make your own body butters. Now, that's where you'll save money and won't have all the crap and chemicals found in commercial products. This is an excellent, trustworthy site (a little more expensive than some). http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/product.asp?product_id=BUTCOCOAPPPID47 This is another excellent site, and may be less costly. http://www.brambleberry.com/Butters-C160.aspx Now for the tutorial video. http://ecowatch.com/2015/11/22/make-non-toxic-zero-waste-deodorant/ _________________ one of the others |

Yes, I have purchased from both sites for a couple of decades. They have been totally reliable.
Once you get used to making your own products, you can experiment and change up and meet your own needs and pleasures. Everything I use is food or food grade--from oils, butters, scents (which I seldom use for myself), clays, whatever. A great facial--everyone I have shared this with loves it and uses it regularly. It's free an easy. Eat a banana and then rub your face with the inside of the skin. Leave it on until it dries. 15 to 30 minutes is best. Then rinse it off with water. It is good for all skin types that have tried it. You will notice a difference after the first time. Do it once a week. Another freebie. Exfoliate with used coffee grounds. Must be ground very fine--like espresso fine. Soap face and apply a small amount to the face and continue to wash. Don't apply too much pressure. Don't over use. It blows my mind that people are buying/using facial/body products that use plastic pieces to exfoliate. Anything plastic in toiletries is horrendous and it is destroying our environment. The impact on the Great Lakes is devastating--google it. Learn. _________________ one of the others |

Sugar scrub is nothing more than sugar and oil. Nothing is easier. Make your own--so much less expensive and none of the unnecessary trash (chemicals) found in most, if not all, commercial products. Any oil will do: hemp, olive, almond, sesame, grape seed, etc. Simply mix sugar--any kind (white, brown, unrefined, coconut) and oil. About 2 parts sugar to 1 part oil. If you want fragrance, buy a small bottle of essential oil; a few drops will do. Scent to your taste, but be careful, a very little goes a long way.
It you want to put food in your scrubs, (banana, lemon/lime (citrus juice, skins or fruit),fresh peppermint/spearmint (herbs), etc., remember fresh contents will mold, so make in small amounts or refrigerate. You can open tea bags (tea or herbal) and and add that to your mixture. Make it yourself. Once you get the hang of it, you can go nuts and you will learn to far prefer your creations. _________________ one of the others |

I have not made these deodorant recipes, but I am so familiar with making home made body products that I can "feel" the end result. I will make one of these I've posted.

This is so easy to do. I do it with celery. I always have it--fresh. I plant outside because I live in California, but it looks like you could do it year round inside. Try it.

Really good, healthy (no chemical poisons) alternatives that work as well or better than the commercial garbage you are told to buy. Much better for you and your skin.
When using honey, don't buy the contaminated crap from china, buy locally harvested (like at farmers markets or at reputable retailers) honey--real honey. These are all really good recipes. Make sure you don't miss the information at the bottom of the page. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2016/04/01/lemon-honey-mask_n_9595314.html _________________ one of the others |

Thought I'd share these interesting pumpkin recipes. If you don't have specific ingredients they list, substitute with what you do have. Instead of ghee, use butter. Instead of coconut sugar, use white or brown. Instead of sea salt, use regular salt. instead of an oil they list, use what you have. You get the picture. Enjoy

Using lemons and white vinegar to clean and in laundry is nothing new, but here are some new (new to me, anyway) ideas to use for a less toxic cleaning experience.
