While denying its existence the powers that be have done a pretty good job of controlling the human spirit.

some current political families in the US(among other places) right and left rode the wave back then. They are still around today.

But we have to put things in proper perspective.

If you look at History from a long range point of view a few hundred years is really nothing.

The Jews were slaves under Egypt for a very long time yet they broke free of their chains.

In more recent times the Commies did a real good job of destroying the Russian spirit and yet the pitch forkers rose to crush them in the 1980's.

Then to give the Commies their Fair due...they had risen to destroy the Romanov family who had ruled them for centuries keeping the peasants in total poverty and the beat goes on and on and this same song and dance has been repeated all over the world since Cain and Able .

This new Tea Party Deal is nothing more then a bunch of Individuals(Millions) saying that they are sick of big brother trying to control every aspect of their daily lives.

No one in their right mind wants the State to Lord over them....its against human nature to want that and most folks will oppose such a thing some will do so quitely, some through violence and some through new movements.

I would have thought that a well respected place such as Harvard would teach people that basic human principle that Human Beings Yearn to be Free!

Hey Ross- I see Local 135 Pension lost $109 Million in 2009. This HealthINSURANCE (not care)is a disaster in the making. I read that employers with 51+ FULL TIME will have to provide coverage, well, watch the hours all go to 39.75/week! This will be interesting to see how the stores hammer workers on benefits, starting soon, as contract end is only a year away March 2011, no? Supervalu has already said they will hammer benefits because wages "won't be seriously negociable due to economy" (paraphrasing Noddle said it, but he's gone now)).Albertsons laid off around 200, I'm told they aren't calling many back. The takeover rumor was bogus, circulated by the Options players on Wall St, to sell calls at $17.50/share, and they did it on dividend reinvestment day March 13-14.(SEC impotent) With $8 Billion in debt, who is going to buy them? Rumor is they(Supervalu) are trying to sell Shaws and Acme chains on east coast though.

And... here we go again>
March 19 (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) will cut food prices and mount a new ad campaign over the next six weeks, a threat to other U.S. grocers that sent an industry shares index down more than 2 percent on Friday.

A Morgan Stanley analyst first reported the world's largest retailer's plan, calling it a major setback for other U.S. grocers, and the company confirmed the promotions in an email.

"While this helps address Walmart's traffic woes, we view this as a major setback for the grocery stocks, which have been rallying on hopes of a return to more rational pricing," Morgan Stanley analyst Mark Wiltamuth wrote in a note on Friday.

http://market-ticker.org/archives/2115-Its-Gonna-Be-Like-Christmas!-Health-Care.html

Denninger at market-ticker.org is one of the most
respected investigative blogs.>>>>

"It's just going to be like Christmas," said DeCarlo Flythe, who lost health coverage for his family when he was laid off almost three years ago. "It's going to be great. You know, no worries (about) the bills. We are going to go ahead and pay our co-pay and be alright."

You got the $10,000 for the policy and another $10k for the out-of-pocket deductibles, right?

Yes, I know if you are lower-income you'll get subsidies. But that being laid off thing might become more-permanently laid off, you see, since if you go back to work your employer will have to either pay a fine (annually) or pick up the majority of that $10k in cost.

If your value in the marketplace is $20/hour, with a 2,000 hour man-year of work (50 weeks x 40 hours/week) your economic value in the economy is $40,000 (gross.) From this your employer is going to have to take $10,000 out to avoid being fined, which means you now make $15/hour. Then you pay taxes (FICA and Medicare) on that. You'll likely get back the rest of your federal income tax (especially if you have a family) but your out-of-pocket medical expenses will still be that $10,000 either way.

So now you've got $30,000/year less about $2,300 in Medicare and FICA tax, and from that you subtract the co-pays and deductibles of $10,000. You're left with about $18,000 to live on, or about $1,500 a month for your family of four.

This sounds like "Christmas"?

The clue-stick coming to whack these folks upside the head just as did the people who said "I don't have to worry about putting gas in my car or paying my mortgage!" will lead to some rather extreme emotions, I suspect, when the truth becomes apparent.

The subsidies don't start for 4 years, meanwhile this further entrenches the FOR-PROFIT health insurance industry, empowering their stranglehold on the US people, while the US pays for health care to IRAQ, ISRAEL,& GUANTANAMO prisoners, and I'm sure AFGANISTAN soon.(with aid) The Health Insurance Cartel will jack-up premiums in the next 4 years, just like the last 10 years, ahead of coverage beginning. Watch! Payroll deductions begin immediately, paid for 4 yrs BEFORE coverage starts.
The insurance companies Wellpoint, & others JACKED UP RATES LAST MONTH, to push this legislation!, because it was dying, they breathed new life into it because THEY KNEW IT WOULD FAVOR THEM! They get 10-35 million new customers, Big Pharma Cartel gets more sales, all MANDATORY! What's not to like!? Obama, a year ago, made a secret deal with Big Pharma that Rx re-importation would NEVER HAPPEN, (especially from Canada), if they supported the legislation.
Health insurance stocks, biotech and Big Pharma ALL SOARING FOR A YEAR, during this debate. Tell you anything? The USA, government bought and paid-for by WALL STREET!

Gordon,
If that is true, find a lawyer (plenty of them in San Diego) file a lawsuit against the local executive board and the entire investment firm. Anyone with knowledge of investing money should not incur such lost during the 2009 calendar year, unless of course the investor is incompetent.

Can you be specific where did you read that?

I am not sure of the source of your information, at my work place, we are currently hiring "new employee".

People who know how to operate the business and make a profit!
