Quote: The dissenters said that allowing corporate money to flood the political marketplace would corrupt democracy.
The ruling represented a sharp doctrinal shift, and it will have major political and practical consequences. Specialists in campaign finance law said they expected the decision to reshape the way elections were conducted. Though the decision does not directly address them, its logic also applies to the labor unions that are often at political odds with big business. In keeping with the traditional "Golden Rule"
These Five Supreme Court Justices have simply cemented into US law the long known true interpretation of that Rule. "He who has the Gold, makes the Rules" _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |

I actually think that the Power brokers can feel the grass roots "Individual" revolution gaining real power in the US and this Supreme Court decision was a transparent and shameful attempt at prolonging this stranglehold the Corps have had in our society by directly telling the individual "we will out spend you and we will not allow you to take control of our capitalist playground"
I will be curious to see exactly what happens long term because you have many folks right now both on the right and on the left that think this decision was a blatant abuse of Judicial Power or as the Reps like to say.. Serious Judicial Activism that is specifically designed to discourage people from voting and worse from becoming actively involved politically! The fact that its so open and blatant may actually help Individual freedom and Rights in the long run kind of like the fall out from the Dred Scott Decision.IMHO _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |

The other issue that makes this decision so crazy coming from so called conservatives on the High Court is that most "Corporations" are and have been "International"
So are these five Honorable Justices now actually saying that it is ok for citizens from other countries to "legally" buy off our own elected officials? It's one thing for "USA ONLY" businesses and Organizations to transparently buy off our American politicians but I get really offended when a business man/women from China or India or Germany is given the Judicial green light to buy them off as well. I am sure glad that Pot will become legal in California this November 2010 so that this current generation of young folks can actually discuss matters such as the "New World Order" and the "Trilateral Commision" in a very transparent and legally pot filled Star Bucks parking lot or some other Public Park instead of in some stuffy secret location like folks were reduced to doing in the 1960's. Who says that we haven't made progress! _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |

I would assume that the Business Unions will also enjoy unfettered political speech and am equally sure that they will happily gorge at the dues trough to ensure a counter-point is heard by all.

Actually, these Five Justices did everyone a big favor by putting a stop to any notion that Business Corporations and there so called Corporate Counterparts are actually at odds with each other.
Something isn't right here. These five Justices must have either panicked or the folks that control them must have panicked because taking the veil completely off the age old scam of buying off the politicians who make the rules so that millions can now see what really is going on doesn't make any logical sense to me. Isn't and hasn't the point always been to make the common USA working stiff think that they have had a real voice in their society? Why the change in course from age old "Secret plots" to "Transparent plots?" They keep this shit up and the intellent conspiracy minded folks are going to be out of business. _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |

Unions can't compete with corporate campaign cash.
"The bottom line is that a union leader who supports the Citizens United ruling is like a steer who talks up a steak restaurant because they're both in the same business." Here is the brief submitted by the afl-cio last July in support of Citizens United. I've been asking for days now when we are to expect Trumka (or anybody in the big umbrella for that matter) to make a statement about the court's decision. Nothing but dead silence...almost like a vacuum. Before this ruling, organized labor utilized PACs funded on voluntary member donations...now they can take whatever amount they want out of the coffers to spend as they will in support of who or what they decide. _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." The problem is that this " Supreme Court Decision" is totally bad and it totally undermines democracy and the whole basic idea of one person one vote not to mention that it will amount to the "legal" buying of all elected officials and the "legal" manipulation of all legislation.
That said, if the Corporations have now been given a green light to buy elections and to buy our elected officials then the only fair thing was for the Court to allow Labor Unions and any other "Organizations" to spend as much money on campaigns that they wish as well. I can't see where these Five Justices could pick and choose which Corporate Organizations could spend money freely to buy elections and which can't. That would be like The Justices in the Dred Scott Case saying that their Decision only applied to "Dark skinned" African Americans and not the "Light Skinned" ones with no "Negro" Dialect. What will end up happening is that at some point down the road a new case will reach the High Court and this Decision will be overturned. However, that will take years if not decades and in the meantime the entire USA electoral process has been temporarily turned into a bigger joke than it already had become in recent years. The writing on the wall was in the 2000 USA election where Five Justices appointed Bush President instead of counting all the votes to actually see if he had been elected. Bush may have actually won but by ruling the way they did the Five Justices opened the door for this ruling in allowing the Corporate Elites to "openly and legally" control the entire electoral process. _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |

Obama scolding this decision may not have been the best "Political" thing to do and it may not have even been what a President should say publically during a State Of the Union Speech.
That said, I think Obama wanted to say that to those five men in black robes. I think Obama's roots with Chicago Activism and having been once a true follower of Saul Alinsky came out loud and clear in that one solitary momement.... ....and yet while he may not win re-election in 2012 and the Dems may be politically destroyed this November and perhaps none of his agenda may be inacted there was something very refreshing about that moment in Obama's speech. I saw and heard a very smart man(President of the USA) say what he really believed.... Even his political smarts could not hide the fact that he thinks this country has fallen into the toilet. Its just too darn bad that more politicians like him don't have or show the real power and courage to simply wave a magic wand and make things right for all of us despite the political consequences to themselves. Thank You Mr. Obama. Regardless of your motives and the ultimate political outcome to you and your party, it took some real brass balls to call out those Five Justices who ruled in favor of this ridiculous Court Decision.... especially doing so on National TV. Saul Alinsky would have been proud of you at that one moment in your speech! I know I was! _________________ "BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" |
