The Liberal Party of Canada will elect a new leader next weekend. The winner has a good shot at becoming the next Prime Minister. One of the front runners is a guy who I wouldn't trust to lead my dog around the block never mind lead the country: Bob Rae

This is a beauty wm thanks. Now I know what it is a Shish Ke-Bob. Rae is the ongoing subject of a list serve I subcribe to. I distributed a link to Rae's Secret life. If I'm not mistaken, this article will add a whole new dimension to the discussion. Stuff you've always wanted to know and were afraid would never come to light. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

Rae's going to be on CBC Newsworld's "Politics" program with Don Newman in a few minutes.

In reference to Prime Minister Harper's motion to declare Quebec a soverign nation, Rae said don't worry be happy - 'Nation is just a word'.
That the pm's motion doesn't address or include anything of consequence pretty much makes it benign, no harm done if it passes as is, what's the big deal? What a goof ball! _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

Just like "loser". Loser is just another word that Rae will need to get used to. Not sure how I feel about the winner, Stephane Dion (that's Stefan, not Stephanie for those who aren't up to speed on Canadian politics) but I must say that I'm very, very pleased that Bob the putana came in third. Back to the corporate law office with you Bobby! But the genie's out of the bottle now. Don't think we won't keep exposing your bedside encounters with the likes of Evans, Mancinelli and others. You should have just stayed in your hole.

Quote: Did he say anything interesting or are you still snoozin'? I didn't even catch it actually. It seems I was misled or misunderstood. I did hear one of the anchors mention that Rae would be on Newmans Politics program but I didn't catch a date and assumed it would that be the same days <don_newman>brooooooaaaadcast</don_newman>. _________________ The PG is your friend. |

I was totally surprised by the result as were most of them I would think - who is Stefan?
Although, when you think about the party leader selection process it's really a big old coin toss and I'm still astounded they play it out in public. I really don't believe the party divisions go into it not knowing who their second and/or third pick will be. Nor that it's known to or shared information between the party divisions, obviously not. Which makes it all kind of clique_within_a_clique_ish. And I have no idea how that (the leader game) then translates to party unity or why it's generally accepted as unity. If we go by the press coverage of the event, I didn't see a party united, I saw a multi-contender cock-fight, with all the blood and gore. Rae's little I'm not playing tantrum after he was soundly rejected just one example. Clearly it was a knife in his old friend Ignatieff's back. is that in party interest or was it pure revenge? As much as it was a gamble on rae's part to leave his supporters to 'freely choose', he had nothing to lose. Do the 'losers' put their convictions on the back burner? How much support can there be on the loser's part for the winner's platform? Not that it matters but what a public display. I think some of the front runners were a breath of fresh air, but the liberal party is still the liberal party with all it's deceitful baggage. If one bad apple can spoil a barrel, just think what 7 bad and revengeful apples can and will do. Now come the next election, my choice is still - which barrel? _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

Dion doesn't come with the baggage that the other two did, but him being such an unknown (and yet another liberal leader from Quebec) will make it very difficult for him to not just pick up seats for his party, but hold onto the ones they have as well!
