All right, here goes. To those of us that know the business, been around the block a few times, etc. I realized the power us few old timers have when push comes to shove.

I am not saying that this will work for everyone, but ? We all know there are not many, if any of the second tier employees that can do the job of a good journeyman clerk. You know who you are, the "dumb ass's" that still have a little bit of pride left in your work. Embarassed Me too.

When I was taught how to work I was allways told we are only as good as the weakest link.

What I am suggesting is only work as hard as the slowest person on your crew. Don't do anything to jepordize your job, just slow down enough to drive your mgr. to drink. What are they going to do, give a guy with one month seniority the responsibility to order the store, etc.

We had some of these and many other problems in my store. Sickness, etc. You guys know. I don't want to bore you.

Some of us did the bare min.(company standards) and things were not getting done. We were in it together.

Our "head clerk" called in sick again(15x)three days before inventory . I was told to fill up the store. So, I filled up the store Twisted Evil Wink Laughing . The h.c. called in again(16x) and we all were this close _ to walking out sick. The local cantina was closed that night, so we stayed and faced the store. Twenty-one pallets to work in one day with three to four people Laughing . Yea, I created more work for us all in the long run, but a funny thing happened when I showed up to work the next night. The mgr. was there working an all nighter. He came up to me and said,"I've had enough. Things have got to change."

So, what I am trying to show you, is that with a little help from some of your old timer friends, you can turn the power a little to our favor.

One thing to remember is, do the min. work according to what your company sets up. Give it a shot. Nothing to lose but a little pride in your work, but everything to gain. The power is still in our hands(to a point) to this day. It's been a month.

I still thank my mgr. for not writing up that clerk for calling in 15x. I know that everybody in the store including myself can have some extra time off with no penalty. Razz

WARNING,do not try this unless properly trained. We are trained professionls. Atempting this stunt without suppervision, could result in severe "ass chewing". Laughing

P.S. LY, heres your sign. Wink

Hey Grump! Thanks for finally getting this story out but you left out the best part......you know about your 2 to 3 hour work stoppage?

Hat's off to your crew for standing in unity and willing to walk together! Too bad the restaurant was closed it would have made for a great story.......

"24 hour grocery store closed up in the middle of the night due to worker uprising"

Just imagine your store manager getting a call in the middle of the night saying his 24 hour store is closed up tighter than a frogs ass and the workers are all gone!!!!

Grump this quote from your store manager says it all!
Quote:
,"I've had enough. Things have got to change."

Oh by the way Grumpy speaking of your store manager.... how is his heart?

Great story grumpy, it's how it worked back in the "good old days." Workers acted in concert to take back the power from those who thought they had it all.
Collectively we still have the ability to change the shit in front of us. Unfortunately those who are our leaders see their role as being there to hold things in place. The problem is the place workers are in right now is an abysmal quagmire of crap up to their eyeballs.

What is so damned astounding is these captains of labor wonder why workers won't join their orgs. Here's a clue you fucking mutants: Workers aren't intersted in preserving the staus quo where they are supporting the lavish lifestyles of CEO's or union leaders.

For years i have argued with some of the mfd/uncharted founders that organized labor will be involved in the rebirth of a worker movement. However, success stories like yours G may well be the way we dig out from this shitpile of what was once a proud movement.
