However, let me take this moment to send a message to "Team Gilligan"....

@ Team Gilligan: Do you really want to start this early? If so, by all means start playing the games. We have no issues starting early.

@JB: Lets meet in Paso Robles again, for old time sakes, bring the various checks/contributions. Lets start this early.

@ Enforcer,......

So like what is taking place within your Local Union?

Specifically,........

Retirement Letter from President Ricardo F. Icaza

Effective September 1, 2017, I’ve decided the time has come to retire from my position as President of UFCW Local 770.

Since I was first elected in 1982, we’ve accomplished much, improving the lives and jobs of union members and workers across California and the nation.

I am confident our union will continue to improve and expand, as I leave you in the hands of our Secretary-Treasurer, John Grant.

I was proud to serve as your president as our solidarity and unity produced some of the best union contracts in the nation, setting the mark for other regions to follow.

Our union led the fight for the living wage, created and passed the landmark Grocery Worker Retention Act, protected our jobs by passing laws to hold big-box corporations like Walmart accountable, and fought to protect the rights of all workers regardless of race, gender, origin, or orientation.

We’ve been a leader in the fight to protect and expand union jobs in an environment hostile to us, and been at the forefront of holding politicians accountable and shaping their agenda. Together, we created an organization that cannot be ignored or excluded, together, we secured ourselves a seat at the table.

It has been an honor to be a part of this, and throughout my career I have looked around me and marveled at the dedication, talent, and drive of our membership and leaders. I was, and am, proud to be a part of this.

That is why I feel confident moving on from leadership of the union. Our team is strong, and Secretary-Treasurer John Grant is a gifted and able leader. His dedication to the membership and working people is beyond question, and he will continue to move Local 770 and the movement forward.

Thank you for your support and efforts in making Local 770 the great union it is today. I wish us all well in the struggles ahead, and remain dedicated to you and our union’s values.

In Solidarity,

UFCW LOCAL 770

Ricardo F. Icaza, President

**Please be advised that pursuant to the United Food & Commercial Workers Constitution, Local 770's Executive Board will elect a new president to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the President's term.**

Does anyone know if icaza has any vacation time coming to him? Like, maybe, years and years and years of uncollected, accumulated vacation weeks. That seems to be a tactic that's been used before. A number of his buddies left their positions collecting monster paychecks because they never (more like claimed they never) took vacations.

Official Results of Local 770 of Nomination of Officers of UFCW Local 770

President Ricardo F. Icaza, Secretary-Treasurer John Grant, Recorder Martel Fraser and 30 Executive Board members were elected by acclamation to a new three-year term as Officers of UFCW Local 770.

The new term is July 1, 2015 thru June 30, 2018.

The deadline for nomination petitions to be submitted to the Election Chair was Friday, February 6, 2015, at 5 p.m. Since no other nomination petitions were received by the deadline, no further election procedures were necessary.

I must say that with the recent September 1, 2017 Retirement announcement from UFCW Local 770 President Ricardo Icaza is puzzling to me to say the least! (see Local 770 website posting above)

My big question is why is President Icaza retiring before his term of office is officially over effective June 30, 2018? Was that a DOL mandate as a result from their previous Local 770’s Officers Election investigation? So many questions??

Based of the following excerpt from President Icaza’s Retirement letter,......

Quote:

That is why I feel confident moving on from leadership of the union. Our team is strong, and Secretary-Treasurer John Grant is a gifted and able leader. His dedication to the membership and working people is beyond question, and he will continue to move Local 770 and the movement forward.

.........It appears that President Icaza, including Local 770’s Executive Board, will be handing over the reins to Secretary Treasurer John Grant for the remainder of President Icaza’s term?

Who will then become the new UFCW Local 770 Secretary Treasurer, Recorder,.......??

Following September 1, 2017, the bigger / difficult question remaining is will Local 770’s new Leadership Team be successful in getting re-elected when Local 770 will be required to open Nominations for their upcoming Local Union Election of Officers in a matter of months?

BTW,.....let us not forget about the following event that will require a UFCW Local 770 Delegates Election.

@ John Grant,.....Coming soon! Just a matter of days,..... Are you ready?

@ John Grant,.......

As you get prepared to become UFCW Local 770’s new President, I’m curious if you would have the courage to make the following notarized promise to the members at UFCW Local 770?
