Quote: A Call to Action - Oct. 6, 2011 and onward
October 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. It is time to light the spark that sets off a true democratic, nonviolent transition to a world in which people are freed to create just and sustainable solutions. We call on people of conscience and courage—all who seek peace, economic justice, human rights and a healthy environment—to join together in Washington, D.C., beginning on Oct. 6, 2011, in nonviolent resistance similar to the Arab Spring and the Midwest awakening. No surprise there, the powers to be in both big labor and the Dems wouldn't want average people (workers) to discover when they mass together united how much power they create. Wisconsin scared the shit out of big labor! That's why they were so quick to call for a recall rather than support a general strike. _________________ I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one! |

Something needs to be done. In economic theory and political action, we have moved back to the early 1930's.
In morale and hope, the working class and the poor have slid back to the Depression or even further. We just keep on taking it; the cutbacks, the benefits slashing and the pay freezes. Does anyone have any idea how far back we have gone in living standards and benefits for the average working person and the poor? Oh by the way, has anyone seen Charlie Chaplin's movie "Modern Times"? Everyone has heard of it but few have seen it. I have a copy of it and it is wonderful. (I have all of his works. When I was in China, I bought the complete set for 80 cents a DVD.) Charlie had capitalism all figured out. |

To look at your standard of living as measured in gold we have taken a major reduction in purchacing power since the 1930's.
In 1932 when we were on a gold standard the average wage was $1120, a car was $400 dollars, and a 4 bedroom apartment was $25 dollars a month. The 1932 wage of $1120 a year bought you 56 ounces of gold. Today a $35000 dollars a year job will only get you 23 ounces of gold. Workers can not keep up with this kind of real wealth debasement. To break the grip of the banksters workers need to go off of the grid and demand real things for there labor and not a depraciting paper substitute. ROSE KNOWS UFCW Local 175/633 |

Would love to have you out on the "Right" Coast Scott! As a symbolic gesture why not descend on Washington, but I think Wall Street and Washington have less and less impact on everyday life of workers. We need to figure out how to need THEM less and less! An example is the 401K, what a joke! Does anyone really believe they can save enough of their own money to retire without the good old fashioned pension? Washington politicians have pissed our tax dollars away making the world safe for Wall Street billionaires! Can't we have some of the billions spent "rebuilding" Iraq and Afghanistan spent rebuilding the USA? The corporations are not interested in American jobs and are above the law. Does anyone except the talking heads on TV believe Wall Street creates jobs? When are we going to wake up and plan life without them?
