Give me a friggin' break! Kagnga and Roo remove the President of Local 40.
Quote: Late breaking news…
The UNITE HERE General Presidents, John Wilhelm and Bruce Raynor, issued a decision on April 10, 2006 to remove Bill Pearson from the office of President/Administrator of UNITE HERE Local 40, as they determined there was a breach of the ethical practices code as outlined in the UNITE HERE Constitution. Fortunately, our union holds it’s Officers and staff to a very high ethical standard. Bill Pearson violated these practices prior to being elected to office in 2003 and for this reason has been removed from his position as President/Administrator of Local 40, effective immediately. Mr. Pearson had use of an employer’s vehicle for a period of time prior to the 2003 Local 40 election. Our ethical practices code is very clear in that we do not take anything of value from employers in the form of a loan or gift. UNITE HERE Local 40 is very proud that we belong to an International Union that holds us to high ethical standards ensuring we remain focused and accountable to you, the membership. Typical trumped-up reason to take control of a Local with lots of dough and benefit plans. Last edited by weiser on Wed May 03, 2006 3:26 am; edited 1 time in total |

There's just so much more to this story - you think?
A local 40 member approached me while I was working awhile back. At about the same time MfD first heard about the strange goings on at local 40's. She left me with the impression that she would be contacting us but I never did hear from nor see her again. Happy she wasn't. Perhaps this new developement will bring her back. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

An MFD article about Pearson and trouble at Local 40. I believe he followed Ron Bonar after Bonar retired. It would seem he was an approved "installation" at that time.

Actually Pearson ran on an "insurgent" slate against incumbent Barbara Williams. Williams was the union's vice-president but took over the top job for a short run after Worhaug was elevated to Canadian Director.
2003 Article The reference to "use of an employer vehicle" as the reason for removing Pearson seems vague, to say the least. Anyone know whether Pearson has made any public statements himself? Is there an appeal process? |
