More than ever I’m going to news sources other than those in the US to find out what’s being said ‘over there.’ I like the UK Guardian, for example, because I like to find out what ‘they’ are saying about our current political climate in other countries.
Here’s an article from Canada’s FP Comment. You probably won’t hear terms like “near chaos” in our own liberally censored press, but believe me, many of us in the lower 48 are thinking along those lines. Quote: As an aghast world — from China to Chicago and Chihuahua — watches, the circus-like U.S. political system seems to be declining into near chaos. Through it all, stock and financial markets are paralyzed. The more the policy regime does, the worse the outlook gets. The multi-ringed spectacle raises a disturbing question in many minds: Is this the end of America? Note the first comment at the end of the article: http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2009/03/19/terence-corcoran-is-this-the-end-of-america.aspx Last edited by Mulligan on Sun Mar 22, 2009 11:37 pm; edited 1 time in total |

The NP takes a tack that is typical of the Canadian mainstream media. We and the Brits like to feel smug and superior when we can but the reality is that we are so connected to America through our economic systems that we will go as it goes. Not to mention that our own political system has been oddly circus-like of late. I read recently that we too have our own dirty little subprime industry - not nearly as large as in the US but it's there and it seems that our government would prefer we not know much about it.

It's always a good idea to get multiple sources of news sources - even those that seem the most liberal can be biased in their own way. Just a thought.

Foreign based news
Try: http://english.aljazeera.net/ It is very, very good especially for foreign news. Beats the North American papers by far. I check it about five times a week. China Times, teh Chinese government English newspaper is also very good for Asian news stories. A lot more balanced than you would think. |

Quote: if it's the end of america then it's the end of the world, including canada, so look out. We'll cross the border in roving packs, steal your women and your beer. Like the Vikings but we wont use longboats, we will use muscle cars and RVs to rape and pillage Canada. The US press is a puke fest; designed and operated to deliver the three ringed circus by those who are in control. I am putting in lots of edible plants. I bought a huge lot and in goes the perennial edible garden mixed in with raised beds for my yearly crops. I think many of us feel like some impending doom is coming in the lower 48 and the rest of the world. Economic disaster aside its just a beginning. We are preparing for undefined unknown disaster, not a slow orderly decline of US hegemony. Lead may be worth more than gold at some point in the future. Its important to network with like minded people. Defense in numbers, Mad Max scenario, slow orderly decline, Reich stag fire, hyperinflation. Who knows? Something is in the air. _________________ “The burden against Damascus. ‘Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap. (Isaiah 17:1-2) |
