Is it possible to move from a vertical/hierarchical order to a horizontal/egalitarian order in the workplace? It's possible and necessary says a European writer in this first in a series about the myths and realities of getting things done at work.

Wow, very nice! If we could change the workplace, would the rest of the social structures in place change as well? I would love to think they would! The important thing is that we begin attempting to change the power structures we have, and the workplace is the most logical place to start I'm thinking!
Quote: Instead of investing in the liberation of people from the imposed systems of control and command, organizations have continuously been investing in reinforcing, strengthening and tightening the vertical and hierarchical order, with the help of more and more advanced and sophisticated systems of control and command. I believe this is due to the organizations in power realizing their hold over people within the hierarchical social order is slipping away with the increase in people's knowledge and abilities. Power is so intoxicating and is the drug of choice for the control freaks! To lose the high which power provides is absolutely unacceptable to those addicted. This so-called natural order has become what people consider "civilization"! While in reality, there is absolutely nothing natural or civilized about this social order! As Rune quotes from Krossa, it's a predatory style of civilization. A civilization engineered through conquering and domination. Society has become domesticated! Cooperation, equality and freedom will not come easy and those in power are more than willing to fight to keep us from attaining these human necessities. In order to practice the mutual loyalty that Rune refers to, we must all be on the same equal level, free from the engineered consent which has been and still is prevalent in our societies. This means breaking the rules; this means dissent; this is social anarchy! The control over the people is very interwoven into our social structures and breaking away from these social norms means breaking the laws and placing oneself in jeopardy. Unless there are enough of us willing to break the mold and demand change, this can be very detrimental to the individual! Quote: The author Wanda Marie Pasz states in this matter:The vast majority of people who work for a living do not know their history. They don't know why the command and control model of management evolved nor do they know its purpose. All they know is that there have always been bosses. In a workplace without bosses there would be chaos and anarchy and that is something that they accept as a premise. This state will reinforce itself continuously in a myriad of different ways in the workplace, in popular culture, in educational institutions and by management theorists. We have been taught that anarchy is such a terrible thing and only maladjusted people would ever consider contributing to the chaos which anarchism would bring. Just more of the same old social controls and steering mechanisms put in place by the upper echelons of power IMHO! We have a social responsibility to change the current structures in order to develop a more equal or egalitarian society. And I see social responsibility increasing on a daily basis as the knowledge once hoarded by the upper echelons is becoming available to the people down the vertical chain. We are becoming more horizontal in our thinking and in our actions, but we've only begun in our quest for needed change. "Empowering yourself by empowering others"....now that's something we can really build upon! _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." Could someone please adjust the vertical hold.
Way profound. I hope people take the time to read and re-read. Although if you read it once you'll want to read it agin. Not agin, again. It's an excellent and unique introduction to the other option, the one we didn't choose. Quote: Society has become domesticated! _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game.
