During the last Bush administration, Naomi Wolf came out with a book entitled “The End of America”. In it, she decried how the United States was veering toward fascism. Wolf’s book was lauded by traditional liberals for its scathing rebuke of Bush’s administration. This isn’t surprising, since Wolf comes from that very same Democratic Party background. What is surprising is that Wolf's commentary about the decline of American democracy seems even more relevant under the current administration. At one time, Wolf was best known as a fairly dogmatic feminist (Her best known book is probably “The Beauty Myth”); but she seems to be moving towards a refreshingly non-party-affiliated, libertarian perspective on democracy:
Quote: There is always the risk in advocating for democracy that the first people to wake up might not be your team, but that is a risk worth taking. I would rather have citizens I don't agree with organized and active than an oligarchy of people that I agree with. Here is an interview with Naomi Wolf: http://xrl.us/bhfkgm |

The First Nations saw an end to the world as they knew it...and it was those Great founding fathers of America who pushed for a hurried end to their world - so we could get on with the business of our democratic freedom! The end of America? With every end comes a beginning...so be it...bring on the planetary phase of civilization and lets give that a try! My country is the world, and my religion is to do good. _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." George Orwell |

Democracy's Edge Quote: Out of sight of most of us, millions of Americans are satisfying their deep needs for connection with each other and expanding their capacities for effectiveness in the larger world. They are showing us how democracy can become more than a set of unapproachable, distant institutions—how it can become the rewarding way of life I call Living Democracy. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game.
