Parasite---

Quote:
Latin parasītus, a person who lives by amusing the rich, from Greek parasītos, person who eats at someone else's table, parasite, para-, beside; see para–1, + sītos, grain, food.]

(noun)

Biology An organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host.

There are many different kinds of scavengers or parasites in nature that feed off the life or carcasses of others for survival.

We have the leech...

The Tick...

The crustacean...

All feeding off others for survival.

Recently I was at Rite Aid shopping for some things. When we got to the check stand there was a young woman(maybe 20) checking. As she rang us up we got to talking about her job at Rite Aid. I mentioned that I was a member of the same union that represents the Rite Aid workers. She smirked and said "I hate our union" and then proceeded to tell us why!

She told us she gets a total of about 13 hours a week, maybe 16 if she's lucky! I asked her how many hours does it take for her to get her health benefits? She said it was either 20 or 24, she wasn't clear on which it was. The woman then told us that the Rite Aid she worked at just hired "another part time worker"! I was floored! This young woman isn’t scheduled enough hours to receive health benefits but the Rite Aid can hire new workers! Now remember this woman is paying union dues and initiation fees but is “not receiving health benefits”!!! She claimed Rite Aid had a contractual right to do this.

If anyone in the Nor Cal locals can come up with a Rite Aid contract I'd love to see the verbiage! I had no reason to doubt this woman, she seemed pretty bright.

This whole thing got me to thinking! We as UFCW members have many parasites and scavengers feeding off our lives and dying carcasses as we stuggle for survival in this world of greed!

The Tick

The Leech

The Crustacean

My heart truly goes out to the young people coming into the UFCW these days! The life is being sucked from them before they even have a chance to live.

Not at all unusual LY, it's the same story across USA retail and in vogue in Canada for many years now. There's people with 10 yrs seniority struggling for hrs while ufcw employers hire at the bottom of the wage scale.

It's the infamous ufcw retail tier package in action. The no hours guarantee seniority language giveaways. ufcw pattern bargaining which ensures ufcw members everywhere get the same shaft.

I don't think it's been released as yet - perhaps ufcw machineheads are waiting for just the right moment. But without doubt - at some point it's almost guaranteed that ufcw will spin the retail hours death trap into sort of win for mankind - 'Shorter work weeks - made possible by ufcw'.

"parasites and scavengers" - yeah what you said.

Laboryes ..... if it would be helpful, here is the contact information for Brad Sapp who is with Rite Aid. He is the one that negotiates these contracts with the UFCW in Northern Ca.

Brad's E-Mail address is a follows:
bsapp@riteaid.com

Maybe we should forward an e-mail to Mr. Sapp with a link to this post and see "if" he would respond???

Never can tell??????

Let me know and I will be more than happy to e-mail this thread to Brad Sapp...... or she could contact UFCW Local 8 and see "if" and "when" a Rep from Local 8 would respond to her????
