where are the water coolers? can you bring the cup of h2o to your checkstand or do you have to run back and forth to get your individual, sanitary cup of water? if you can bring it back to your checkstand, be careful not to knock it over on any sensetive equipment, (at least a closed, sports bottle topped bottle is a less likely to "spill"). how much is the installation of water coolers going to cost them? it costs nothing to let the employee buy, (at thier store) an over priced bottle of water, (i'm too frugal, i just refill my own bottle!).
how about calling OSHA, or the canadian equivelant to report unsanitary condiions in the bakery, deli, etc. in california, this can be done without giving your name.
just some ideas.
LY, the printer is on, the stamps are self-stick, how much easier can it be to let a company know how we feel!! nice flier BTW.

Hey, how's about some of those fancy little "sippy cups"? That way if it falls over, your 'puters are still protected.

Boy, I smell a Bobby(water boy) Buche' joke in here some where. How's about a five gallon bucket with a ladel to serve up some of the finest H20 in the north.

LY, you can count me in on that mail list.

Thanks GR! You have got to be one of the most solid union sisters I know! No one has to ask you twice to get involved and help out! I sure wish there were more people like you in this world.

Oh BTW I see you peeking in Grumpy! Is your printer going yet? Have you addressed those envelopes yet? What the F@*K ya waiting for? Mr. Green

Much appreciated and the timing is bar none.

The water ban is in full force (more on that a little later) - but the promised additional water coolers have not been installed and no time line has been forthcoming.

As it stands:

1) there is ONE 5 gal water cooler which is situated by the customer service (c/s) desk near the front of the store. And one 5 gal cooler upstairs in the staff area (to access the staff area it's necessary to key in a security code which then leads up 2 flights of stairs.

2) The c/s water cooler is accessible to, used by and is water service for all customers and all on-duty staff in each of the 12 depts.

3) there is no regular maintenance or fill service for either location.

4) A stack of single use paper cups are kept in a small plastic bulk container on the service counter beside gm sale items. The spare cups, if there are any, are kept in the cupboard below and along side the photo dept. supplies.

No, there is to be no water near the workstation.

People have been told that "no-one will be denied a drink of water". People are also not able to leave the check-stand at will. Which shakes out to little more than an outright water restriction.

People with immediate health issues have gotten doctors notes which are being routinely disregarded by some management.

One of the no-minds leading this attack professes to be "an athlete" himself and professes to be fully knowledgeable about the dos and don'ts of hydration.

Given his knowledge and the ban itself, then the obvious conclusion to draw would be either:

a) 'the althlete' doesn't give a rat's ass.

or

b) the "athlete" (aka mgnt) is completely ignorant about the nature of retail tasks under his control.

Well it looks like Save-On's wish for the water issue to not go public didn't come true! Twisted Evil

Lets see! Plus a request to the IWW to post it on their web site and the shit load of emails that were sent out I think Save-On's biggest fear just came to life Mr. Green

Save-On-Foods...Treat your workers with dignity and respect and this shit wouldn't happen! Duh!

i was shopping at treader joes yesterday, (yes, i shop at non-union stores. i don't make enough money to not take the price of things into major consideration), anyway...imagine my suprise when a person ran down the super busy front-end, HANDING OUT BOTTLES OF WATER TO ANY EMPLOYEE THAT WANTED ONE!!!!
wow, they didn't even have to pay for thier bottle of water! maybe thier manager understands the benefits of happy employees, maybe keeping them in the checkstand increases productivity/profits?
what a concept?!
i just fired off another flier and e-mail to suggest this remedy to SOF's managment.
shit, the employees aren't even asking the company to provide the water, just let them have some water.

Hey everyone

I think tomorrow I'll have a little fun with the fax machine! How many ink cartridges do you think we can go through in one day?

Here's the fax number for a Save-On-Foods store in BC

Fax: 604.826.2748

Let's fax that flyer by the hundreds! Who's in?
