You could also pass out bottles of water to customers in the parking lot, and ask them to donate them to their cashier, creating a rather large stockpile of water bottles at every check stand. The managers will have fits. They can't write anyone up because of something a customer does, and heck, someone ma even get an extra 20 minutes of paid worktime. Someone will have to clean up the mess from all those water bottles.
If any of the stores have a union rep that will go along, just keep the bottles and grieve every write-up and grieve every time management takes a bottle away. They'll get tired of it pretty quick. It may risk a write-up or two, but for folks that can afford one, cashiers could engage in coordinated coughing fits because of their dry throats. |

LY...you've been up in the hills way too long, Brother! Fantasizing about me in a fairy suit!!
Besides...I look GOOD in a fairy suit. Ask anybody!! Constructive thought: just flashed on the old Police song..."Message In A Bottle"...what about protest letters to the company rolled inside plastic water bottles and mailed to appropriate party/honcho at corporate HQ??? The Health/Safety reponse is bull...but the idea of washing hands aafter every sneeze, etc. as per laws is super!! Run with it!!! |

Or how about rotating fainting spells on the checkstands?
Q: How many managers does it take to bring the cashier a drink of water? A: How big is the customer order? Unfortunately wp, ufcw 1518 has folded. The out of hand standard fare from the rep was; "unfortunately the employer is allowed to have policy and there's nothing we can do". There was a time when 1518 reps would have wiped the floor with this employer's stupidity instead of endorsing it. So be it. What's interesting is that all employers have a wish list or as they like to call it - policy. There's nothing new in employers having long wish lists. That doesn't automatically make items on their list legal tender as employers would have people believe. You can fool some of the people some of the time and it would seem, ufcw most of the time. The fear shouldn't be that an employer has policy but rather that it gets to practice policy, This particular policy has been on their books for years. Only recently has the company decided to brush it off and see if it drives. Why now? How now? There's no difference as far as people pushing envelopes. There always has been and always will be people stepping out of bounds. But for whatever reason, union employers are feeling confident about pushing that line back - re-introducing archaic tactics into the workplace, taking "control" - like there's nothing standing in the way. Kind of ironic eh, the tighter the goofs turn the screws, the worse it gets and the worse it gets the tighter the goofs turn the screws. I think I read somewhere that "rules incite chaos" - that's for us to know and them to find out. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Tonight's quick observation...
I just got back from some late night shopping at Dominion (A&P partner) here in Ontario. Pretty classy joint, although I wasn't impressed with the tomatoes tonight. Fancy Feast cat food was on special though! Anyway, the young girl at the cash had her water bottle there as well. It was empty so I'm assuming that she drank the contents and was going to refill it at some point. As a customer, I DIDN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE BOTTLE BEING THERE!!!!!!!! Oops, I just cut and pasted the above in a return mail to Hugh! And eeeek, I just hit send! Hmmm... Maybe I shouldn't have yelled? _________________ Henri Ducard: Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share. Bruce Wayne: That's why it's so important. It separates us from them. |

E did you get the email I sent you about the sewer back-up at 946 and shit floating all the way to checkstand 5 last night and again today? Hugh is going to be some upset, I know how he feels about cross contamination and I just thought the news might be best coming from you.
Oh and fyi, I posted the letter but I think it must have been too much of a distraction with all the attention it was receiving because it was quickly torn down by someone. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

Thanks LY, how much trouble is it to add a "Please Recycle" to the bottom of the page.
Although I'm sure the guilty parties will want to frame this one and/or won't be wanting to toss it helter skelter after they receive it - you can never be too careful when it comes to protecting planet earth. And/or when dealing with people who forget to be people first. If it's too much trouble then perhaps folks can pencil it in before making copies or sending - value added fun. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. This is too good and I hope it doesn't cost me my 20 yr service award gift. But just to be clear, 946 mgnt has offered to install water coolers. I don't think that's at all good enough but many do and accept the compromise. Even if it was good enough - which it isn't - as far as I'm aware the offer is not chain wide as is the ban itself. The other consideration and reason to advance the wonderful leaflet is how far the "inhumane act" of denying retail people free and easy access to life giving water is spreading. I do believe it's epidemic, or if not curtailed, will be epidemic. Give retailers a flippin' inch and they'll take hide. Either way you look at it, a total ban or control there of, it's a direct hit to retail people who get little enough respect as it is. So yeah, if you don't want to be labeled an asshole, then don't be one! _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |
