"Disc drive" meaning "not the CD-ROM" but your hard disk?

I don't understand. Can you explain exactly what you're doing when you see the "disabled" message and where you're seeing it?

right click dvd/cd rwdrive d
properties
dla
drive-sonycdr-dvd
Disc disabled

I did find info in properties telling me the Sony dvd is working fine. Of course when i push the button to open the tray all i hear is it spinning.
