Just when they thought it was safe to go outside, there's more bad news for the trustees of the UFCW's reeking Canadian Commercial Workers Industry Pension Plan. Get the latest from CWIP-land...

I guess this is the best thread to throw in this news item. Seems Ron Kelly and pals are having trouble unloading all around...
Quote: Hilton Kingston Hotel owner says no sale yet
Sunday, May 06, 2007 Hilton Kingston Hotel owner Ron Kelly last night confirmed that he was in talks with potential buyers, including local alternative investment firm Cash Plus, but said he had not yet made a sale decision. "I am actively considering selling," Kelly told the Sunday Observer. "I would say that in the next month or two I will make a decision. One thing that I don't want to do is upset the staff." Earlier yesterday, the Sunday Observer was told that Cash Plus boss, Carlos Hill, had become the sole owner of the 303-room, 18-storey hotel after inking a deal worth just over US$40 million with Kelly last Friday. Hill's attorney, Harold Brady, said that Hill had been placed on the hotel's board of directors and that Kelly would also remain a director. "There will be no staff changes," said Brady. "There's going to be substantial refurbishing and upgrading of the hotel." According to Brady, Hill wants to transform the hotel into a five-star property. But last night Kelly, while admitting that Cash Plus was one of three prospective buyers with whom he has been having discussions, suggested that he was nowhere near making a deal with any of the parties. "I don't know of any deal with Cash Plus," said Kelly, who also made it clear that he would sell to the party putting forward "the best offer". It is not unusual when business transactions are delicately poised for the parties involved not to make the full details public. However, talk of the sale of the property, which sits on 7.5 acres in the heart of Kingston's financial and diplomatic district, has raised concern among the staff, sources told the Sunday Observer yesterday. On another note... when the hell did the guy get hitched? No one told him that up here the 'female' partner isn't a requirement anymore?

He did it to prove to the Panamanian government that he is over his "little boy" stage.
What's interesting is that the Jamaica Hilton was owned by the holding company as the South Ocean. Why is it that he can collect $40 million from the Jamaica hotel and not have to fork over the dough to the CCWIPP? |

Ronnie's bride is a former Newfoundland Liberal MP named Bonnie Hickey. Bonnie did her MP gig from 1993-97 and then ended up working for one of Ron's companies (in Ottawa I believe). Ron's ties to the Liberal Party are really kind of distressing.
Anyway, Ronnie and Bonnie tied the knot last year or the year before, right on the heals of a lot of publicity in Panamanian newspapers about Ronnie's altar boy diddling escapades. I don't know if it's a marriage of convenience of if Bonnie is really an altar boy in drag. And if you think that's gross, here's something that'll make you puke again. I see that the LM2 reports are out for 2006. And there's former Canadian UFCW Director Michael J. Fraser (who ran away with his tail between his legs about a year ago), tipping the scales at a cool $302,454 in salary and benefits last year. Not bad considering that the dog ran off at the end of April 06 so that works out to just about $75,500 per month that the dumb trougher was making last year. Eek! Somebody pass the Gravol. I see also that he's billed as a "Retired Spec Asst". I'm assuming that's his new post at the trough? It's all so disgraceful I can hardly stand it. And to add insult to injury the spineless windbag is still on the CCWIPP Board of Trustees. _________________ Time is on the side of the oppressed today, it's against the oppressor. With that kind of money, the guy really should splurge on an extreme makeover. Wow. Or at least a pair of bitchin' leather pants and some super-hold gel to go with that... OK seriously, what the %#$^ is that?? _________________ Henri Ducard: Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share. Bruce Wayne: That's why it's so important. E, what's with the picture? Is this a game of "Spot the Wal-Mart shirt"? If so, I'm in:
The guy talking to Cliff's nephew is wearing the Wal-Mart shirt. Mike boy is wearing a creation of Loblaws "Joe Fresh" line of sexy men's fashions. As you can see, you can sleep in a Joe Fresh creation and still look okay providing you cover it with leather. He looks so butch in leather, and ya just cringe thinkin' about what he's doin' with his hands in his pockets: Deep thoughts of the moment by Mike: Y'know, I think my left ball is lighter than my right ball. I wonder if he got a better deal on his shirt than I got on mine? |

Here's an interesting article about the CCWIPP's new partner in its Kingston Hilton Hotel venture:

Kudos to the writer of that article. Logical, aggresive, thoroughly entertaining. Wish we could see more of that up here. The guy should be invited to join uncharted!
Poor Ronnie. With friends like those... who needs us? _________________ Henri Ducard: Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share. Bruce Wayne: That's why it's so important. It separates us from them. |

It's depressing and sickening how they just keep on going with the same pattern. How many financial commissions will it take to someday stop this shit?...
http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20070509/business/business8.html Quote: Cash Plus, a five-year-old company in Jamaica, has built up an expansive array of businesses in its expanding and diversified portfolio of companies. Hill operates in the telecoms, financial, shipping, hospitality, fuels/chemicals, real estate and other sectors. He claims ownership of at least three other executive inn properties in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
The Financial Services Com-mission (FSC) has been keeping tabs on Cash Plus' operations, and last week issued a formal notice advising that the company was not licensed as a securities dealer or investment adviser - statements it has made before in press reports. Said the regulator: "The Financial Services Commission has issued a public notice advising that Cash Plus Limited is not licensed by the FSC to conduct securities business in Jamaica and that the securities offered to the public by Cash Plus Limited have not been registered by the FSC." _________________ Henri Ducard: Your compassion is a weakness your enemies will not share. Seems like Ronnie is starting to loose his power or is developing a bad memory. He tells one newspaper that he is negotiating the sale of the Hilton while Cash Plus announces to the press that they are the new owners and their plans for the property. This goes against the normal business practice of a joint announcement of the sale and purchase of a major business.
This is very good news! It also speaks volumes to the types of people Ronnie does business with. Hopely the pension plans no longer hold an interest in the properties in Jamaica. On another note, Ronnie and Bonnie go back a long way. Ronnie and RHK were involved in an old Mifflin Canning Factory in Newfoundland that Bonnie and her boyfriend/campaign manager Wayne Humphries were promoting in the mid 1990's. I wonder if that lost money and if CCWIPP invested in that also. And yes, that is the same Wayne Humphries that ended up working for Ronnie at RHK in Toronto. He was running property management or something like that. I'm sure there is a lot more bad news for the CCWIPP Trustees to come. |
