Thanks for the links. Sorry I didn't catch this when it first went up.

The idea of an open source manifesto/mission statement is great. It's a great example of what open source should mean in the union context, not just open source membership or issues (like associate membership or the great work Bill Pearson's local did to address the issues of workers beyond their membership) but open source in the sense of giving all members access to the union's own "source code" and architecture.

It is more important to get people thinking about some of the principles involved than to settle on exact language (the idea of recall of all officers/reps vs percentages of member signatures required to initiate a recall election).

I think it would be cool to have a wiki version of this, with each point a separate item, so that people can tinker with it and create a record of the evolution of the doc (and so you can roll back spam, etc).

If all the UFCW reform sites would be willing to link to the OSM, it might become a very useful thing -- a mission statement for a movement, not just a group.

Of course, mission statements are only as good as the work they inspire, but they are important, especially at the beginning when people are figuring out how to orient themselves.

So why isn't the OSM on the uncharted front page? Seems like a permanent item to me.

Last suggestion: one HERE reform website has a mission statement with specific measureable items and the webguy strikes through the items that have been won. This is a great way to measure progress (and the lack thereof).

Damn, wish I'd said that too! Mr. Green

It does look awesome rogead! The only thing I found with the Firefox browser is that the article on the hog's salaries doesn't fit on my page and I have to scroll to view the entire document.

Well get in line and I'm surprised you didn't.

Hanging out with bigbrains puts a whole new spin on getting a word in edge wise. Not for lack in discussion pauses but for every thought that may or could evolve, given enough time, but before I can get to it, it's already been posted. Rolling Eyes Mr. Green

This is a good start rogead. I do think you need develope some mechanism for two-way communication. Obviously a guest book with commentary comes with fears that may be a hurdle. I know the anonymity is an issue, so a log on/sign in feature with a handle and a local union affiliation may be enough for starters.

Let us know if you need help with copy. I do like the clean look and simplicity of it. The problem is static sites tend to lose folks after a very short period of time.

Wow-the techspeak made my eyes gloss over-sorry Kelsey.
Looks like a great start, should we start discussion about a board for the nonprofit on ufcwreform?

I'd like to be able to take the credit, but the house was built by Kelsey. I'm just doing some interior decorating...learning as I go. It really is still in its formative stages. I'm busy with a lot of stuff right now, but I'll plan on updating the site at least weekly.

There will definitely be some interactive elements to come. Firstly and most importantly, discussion in regards to the formation of a board and bylaws for a nonprofit corp.

Thanks again everyone!
