Neither side has been a paragon of virtue and one can only wonder what members in 135 will find to take interest in. I guess most disturbing is Mickey's branding of folks. If you've got something to say, just fucking say it. Lay the goddam facts on the table and stop with the inuendo and half-assed accusations. Even though Mickey K. is resorting to the name calling and smear tactics, the opposition should concentrate on delivering their message that will endear them to the members. It's not about Mickey or about the challengers, it's about the members stupid!!

They have caused an unnecessary expense of your union treasury to be allocated for the election. According to the above information from protectyourunion ( Click on 'voting - details and polling places' on the left) - this executive election is a result of member opposition. I've been ufcw for a long time and I've never experienced an election just 'cause. Any and all officer elections have been (are) mandated by the ufcw constitution and bylaws. Can anyone clear that up? Why is local 135 holding an election of officers? I'll be straight up, if I was a member and knew nothing of ufcw's history I would be hard pressed to vote for either side at this point. I would in all likelihood: a) not bother to vote b) think it's about power and not about opening the doors to members c) wonder why I pay dues d) all of the above e) all of the above _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. It's so pathetic on so many levels that it's hard to know where to begin criticizing it. It guess the thing that jumped up off the page at me was Mr. Kasperian's sudden dismay with nepotism. I mean, since when has that been a bad thing in the elite ranks of the UFCW? Nepotism! If they banned nepotism in the UFCW, they have no staff in their headquarters and there'd be thousands of local executive and business agent jobs going vacant. As for the women joining forces to get a message out, well, I can see why that's scaring and confusing Mickey and his boys. I'm not surprised that they would come to the unabashedly sexist conclusion that they're just a bunch of scheming bitches who were put up to this by their power-hungry mates. Like who's ever heard of women writing stuff on their own and protesting and that kind of shit? Mickey and the rest of the poohbahs are stuck in some kind of time warp. Both the Local 588/8 merger fiasco and the San Diego Local 135 Election fiasco---of 2006-- along with the usual UFCW "union member" bashing-- --have also openly and very clearly exposed the UFCW of their obvious "Female" bias as well as it has demonstrated how they fear minorities ----- "more militant" oriented union Hipanics and African American union members that work at the Brawley Beef Plant--and elsewhere-as an example-- Wanda- -you are right--unfortunately many of these UFCW insiders have been members of the time honored "Good Ol Boys" white man's club. I know this is a bit harsh--but many times the truth usually is!
