One of the more interesting workshops at the most recent Labor Notes convention was put on by members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW). Their unwavering commitment to community-based organizing and their use of “Truth Tours” represent some of the most unique tactics in worker organizing. Last year, they were able to force change at the massive Yum Brands, Inc. (Taco Bell, among numerous other fast food brands). Perhaps there is much to learn from their commitment to each other and their vision of “community”.
