RWDSU!!!! I forgot about this Union. Don't here a lot about them as the UFCW gets all of the attention.
------ We, the employees of Sobeys, have been walking the picket line since September 11, 2005. Nine months later, the picket lines are going strong. The company has not returned to the bargaining table since January, 2006. Whenever the conciliator calls, it has nothing to talk about. The employees have been working for $2 to $5 an hour less than staff in other food retail stores in Regina -- even the other non-union Sobeys! The structure of the company's last offer is less than desirable. It does not want to put the money where it is needed or even make a fair and reasonable offer. The company wants to create a two-tier system of wages so it can make people work for even less money. We have said "no" to this. We have also demanded that all replacement workers be terminated and never be rehired. A majority of workers voted to strike because of the working conditions, the lack of respect and the generally anti-union behaviour of our employer. We strongly believe that this is a fight we need, and want, to win -- and will "walk the line" until the end! Recently, some individuals have called our behaviour into question. Ours is the most peaceful picket line you will ever see. Just ask the police! What the public does not see are the dozens of obscenities, the subtle and overt threats, the daily assaults by motorists against pedestrian union members with their vehicles (approaching them rapidly and slamming on their brakes at the last second). They don't see the windows of the RWDSU bus being shot at, or the paintball attacks. The general public does not witness the picketers being assaulted with garbage, water guns and even human spit. The police seem to be very slow to respond to attacks on union members, but come out in great numbers whenever the company calls in a questionable or even false complaint! It is true that life on the picket line is hard. But many people have chosen to support us with their generous donations, for which I thank them. It would be difficult to continue without everyone's support. We will continue the fight because justice and equality is ours!! I've been in your shoes, Susan.It was only for 141 days---you guys are awesome for your tenacity.
It's very, very difficult to keep the lines going and keep the public from shopping. The troublemakers in your community will use your site to entertain themselves---and bad behavior abounds when people cross picket lines to shop and work. Your commitment to the cause and your daily bravery while facing the tribulations on the line will not go unnoticed. Please post a link where donations can be made to your strikers; if nothing else, I have friends in Regina who can get aid to you out there. It doesn't matter what union you're in, a hurt against one is a hurt against all. You deserve some good publicity and support. _________________ ...a dream lives on forever... |

Susan--
The fight that RWDSU-is-fighting with "Sobey" is an inspiration---and you have earned the respect of all of us. It is struggles like this that brings home the point--to why-- what some of these UFCW Fat Cats have done is unforgiveable. While Susan and her group are fighting for true justice-- UFCW-people like Dority-- Loveall--Icaza---Diamond--Hartwell--Kasparian and many other corrupt--greedy and ego maniac bastards throughout the vast UFCW--Empire--have waged war against their own union members-because they so desperately want to hold on to their cozy kingdoms along with their rich lifestyles----- -they have chosen instead to go to bed with the enemy--play golf with the enemy---pass out candy canes with the enemy--conspire with the enemy--and trample on union democracy--side by side with the enemy Perhaps the most cruel --thing that some of these UFCW assholes have done is to use the Wal-Mart issue as a way to keep the "Rank and File" union members busy looking at "Wal Mart" as the boogy Man--the reason for all of our problems-- -- while in truth all of the millions spent on Wal Mart could have been put to use in actually trying to unionize new workers---and actually working on developing--strong--contract language--for our current UFCW members--but that would take courage--and some "Smarts"-- Don't get me wrong--Wal Mart--is a cancer that has helped to destroy our standard of living--- --but with friends like "Loveall" and Company--who needs Wal-Mart---they are doing just fine thank-you! Hang in there Susan- -It may take a while and the battle may seem to never end----and things may seem hopeless-- --- but Justice will be served-- 'BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE" LT |
