I'm lucky to like night crew and #2 of 21/2!The La Costa store absorbed most of Encinitas workers. Being a checker is no security at all right now, that's where they cut, many to 24 hrs/wk. How can Ralphs demote full-time to part-time? I thought the union prevented that. but I'm behind on the latest contract language. They can't open the store without me and the crew chief, it would be real ugly. Supervalu(aLBERTSONS) has put out a non-mandatory tender offer for shares of stock, I hear, but can't get any answers on what it's for, some sort of reorganization plan.

saw this on another board:
Re: Openings............ 26-Feb-09 10:15 pm
Yes there is some truth to that.... I'm an Albeertson driver out of Brea DC. There has been some mentioning from some store directors that there is a possibility of about 35 Lucky stores opening under a B contract not under the Union...

3rd man assistant manager confirmed this today, that Albertsons is going to open(close & reopen or convert?)stores in South San Diego, etc(Hispanic i.e. Chula Vista)to Lucky without the high end items and abigger assortment of hispanic foods, these are his words, not mine.He said it's not "a trend" but would be non-union, "not our pay scale".I am concerned because John Snow("Snowjob"), the ex-Treasury Sec, is CEO of the Cerberus Capital, LEVERAGED BUYOUT CO, they own 50%+(one of 3 partners) of 600 Albertsons ("Albertsons LLC") his partner is Dan Quale, that idiot- moron who ran for VP once, they bought Chrysler and GMAC financial, only to gut them and now are asking for gov't bailouts, they never plan on holding a business, only gutting the union, splitting it up, selling it for more and spitting it out. Cerberus paid too much for the stores, they may be dictating some of this, not sure.

Well, Ross and folks, Albertsons layed me and the other guy with lowest seniority off yesterday, 3 weeks before my 1-yr anniversary. They want to put it in writing how great an employee I've been, throwing 75cases/hr on nightcrew and not missing a day of work, only one day clocking in 5 min late doesn't matter. The store shelves are depleted, the load had something like 200 "outs" from the warehouse. I tried to find out what's up, they said it's cuz of inventory. I heard we made payroll by $32.00 in the first 3 months, so it's better I move on. Albertsons(Supervalu) is hurting.Meeting w/ union tomorrow, they are urging everyone to file grievances,to make sure the store followed procedure but I don't want to burn bridges to finding a job with Ralphs(Kroger) or someone else, so I'm going to question the Rep, bigtime. I got 2 "step-up" in pay to $19.15/hr 3 weeks ago, after 1800 hrs (1000+600) so I am sure this was their bottom line, although the 3rd man denied it, saying "John (the other layoff)is at $10.20." They are willing to give me in writing praise and testimony(including my 2 evaluations) to help me find another job. I think letting the inventory run down this far is extreme, it's either because their credit lines are cut (cash flow) or perhaps Albertsons LLC(600 stores) (owned 50% by Cerberus Capital Hedge Fund, who owns Chrysler, headed by former Treas. Sec John Snow(-job) maybe is planning to sell?. It smells, I went in Rite Aid yesterday though, same thing, shelves all wiped out, huge holes everywhere. Thinking of trying to get on w/ Ralphs, they said a hiring freeze means I can't even go to another Albertsons and apply, don't like this whole company, worst attitude and moral. Will get unemployment, take care.

..and the saga continue;

Have you ever known of union presidents who threaten to suspend a member from the union if the member doesn’t pay $1.50 late fees?

Ladies and Gentlemen, know this, while Kasparian prepare to terminate my membership for an alleged late fee “the dues was paid on time” my employer Albertsons offer financial assistance to any one who is in financials difficulties.

Yes, if you work for Albertsons and you are a victim of these economic critical times contact you store manager and you will be directed to the appropriate department for a financial grant.

Albertsons motto, we will take care of our employees!

Mickey Kasparian motto, Ross pays me a $1.50 or I will take away your livelihood!

more later.

Another great moment in history of Mickey Kasparian and his dictatorship regime

After several months of correspondence between I and President Kasparian the Dictatorship regime once again continue to oppress the rank and file.

On June 23, 2009 I mailed President Kasparian a check in the amount of $ 1.50, for the “alleged”, late fess for the month of February 2009.

UFCW Local 135 cashed the check on June 25, 2009.

Now that the extortion money was paid I can continue to work.

Kind of sad when I think about it, I can not pay my utility on time I call the utility company, I said I can only pay portion on my bill, I don’t have enough to pay it full, YES!, they “the utility company” said pay what you can and, we carry over the unpaid balance into next month statement. Great; I said Thanks!

The car payment is due on the first of the month; the bank gave me an addition 10 days to pay without any penalties.

The mortgage payment is due also on the first, of the month; the bank gives everyone an additional 15 day before they charge any late fees.

While it is clear, by my own experience, that society is willing to help people who encounter financial difficulties, it is also clear the UFCW Local 135 under the dictatorship regime of Mickey Kasparian will go out if his way to oppress the rank and file.

My question to President Kasparian was and still is, you got the money before the 5th what is your problem? President Kasparian response in a letter to me; “the envelope was post marked February second 2009”!

My follow up response to President Kasparian, Soo... what; if the envelop was post mark the second, my financial institution deposit my money into the local account of the 5th of February, where is the problem?

President Kasparian replied, Ross, if you don’t pay the late fees by July 1st 2009 I will suspend you from the union! WOW.

Surprised? Not really, after all President Kasparian is the one that, during the 2003/2004 labor dispute, received regular paychecks, while the rank and file was driven into financial ruins.

Ross did kasperian by any chance give you any of that in writing? If he did, then I think it only fitting that it be posted for the world to read and I'd be more than happy to put it on-line.

SharynS,

Great idea, nothing can be better that to post the letters,

Up until today we have five letters in total.

I have sent you “via e-mail” the first two, one is dated March 27, 2009, from me to President Kasparian, the other one is dated April 13, 2009; President Kasparian reply to my letter.

Before the end of this week I will send you two more letters, one dated May 20, 2009 from me to President Kasparian, and another one dated May 21, 2009 from President Kasparian to me.

The last one up until now, is dated June 23, 2009 from me to President Kasparian.

In conclusion, my dear friend, I am willing to properly answer your question, please be patient, and soon I will provide copies of all of the original letters for everyone to see.

In addition, I will provide a copy of my check, front and back that clearly stated that UFCW Local 135 received the funds on the 5th of February 2009.

After the local mailed me the letter dated May 21, 2009. I received the statement for the month of July 2009, the statements was stamped “DON’T GO SUSPENDED” you are delinquent in your Dues.

This amount “$160.50” must be paid before July 1, 2009.

Confused?? First the local is asking for $159.00 after that they are asking for $160.50.

Did Kasparian first waved the February late fees because I am right? That should be the right thing to do after all the money was transferred from my bank to the union bank on the 5th of February.

Why did he changed his mind and demand the late fees?

I paid in June 24 the $1.50 late fees, aka extortion fees, plus the dues for the month of May 2009

On July 1st 2009 I followed up with this letter;

July 1, 2009
Certified Mail
UFCW Local 135 7006-2760-0004-8068-3368
Ms. Marie Incrocci
Membership Department Head

Re: Ross Bagnasco union dues;

Dear Ms. Incrocci;

Enclosed you will find two checks, one is for the amount of $53.50
That will be for the union dues for the month of June 2009 including late fees.

The second check is for the amount of $52.00 that is for the month of July 2009.

Since the checks and the envelop are date and post mark July 1, 2009 according with President Kasparian that will constitute that payment for July was made on time.

Questions;

What happen if the union office cashes the July payment after July 5th? Will President Kasparian charge me late fees?

What actions are taken “if any” when the grocers don’t deposit the union dues funds in a timely manner?

Does President Kasparian invite them to lunch or dinner “with the members money”, followed by, “hugs and kisses”, or does he threaten them the same way that he threatens the rank and file?

Suggestion;

Eliminate the late fees. It is a crime to hunt down the rank and file for a $1.50 knowing
That the majority of them can’t make ends meet.

Sincerely,

Ross Bagnasco

No reply yet from the local.
...and they have yet to cash the checks.

Nothing changes within UFCW Local 135, President Kasparian continue to deny the rank ad file a copy of the revised local 135 By Law, and our union rep Ed Kramer visited my work place on July 22, 2099 and intentionally avoided to speak to one the shop stewards.

The irony is that, this Shop Steward was hand pick by Kasparian

Interesting observation while Kasparian refuses to post the Worker magazine in his entirety on the local website, http://www.ufcw135.org

Here it is http://www.ufcw135.org/Hackworth_message.htm “Union” is not a dirty word
the last page of the current issue of the worker, makes one wonder why not uploading the entire publication?

Hey Mickey you care to explain? BTW, this morning I mailed you two checks one for $1.00 and the other one for $1.50. I am sure that that will make you very happy.

The last time that local 135 held an officers election was in 2006

I received the October issue of the Worker magazine, and not a word about when the next election will be held. What up with that?

Here we are November 4th, 2009 nothing yet, could this be another 1036 experience? Rolling Eyes

Here we go again; Pedro noticed that Kasparian did not post the latest message from Rosalyn Hackworth Secretary Treasurer, UFCW Local 135 on the union website.

The Worker October 2009 UFCW Local 135,

From page 5, Secretary-Treasurer’s report;

‘DID I JUST SEE THAT?’

Quote from the article “I couldn’t believe. A barista at the Starbuck kiosk in the store was letting customers check out grocery items at her station”

“This is foolish for several reasons. First, it takes away hours from checkers not 50 feet away from her. Second, the store had laid off workers during that time. Third, the Starbucks girl did not make any extra money for the work she did in a higher job classification”

I can’t help to wonder why Kasparian did not post it on the web. Since the subject is about protecting union members jobs.

The "True" story of two UFCW Local 135 members,

Pietro, born in Sicily immigrate to San Diego California, immediately after his arrival he was able to secure a job at a local fish market. Pietro worked for the next 35 years always devoted union member never had any problems with the UFCW organization. Pietro retired in June 2009.

Steve, born in San Diego, California Mother and Father born in Sicily and like Pietro they immigrated to the USA, Steve at the age of 17 was offered a job at a local grocery store he worked for the same company for 34 years. Steve like Pietro became a union member and like Pietro never had any problems with the UFCW organization. Steve retired in July 2009.

Here comes “Mickey” the UFCW Local 135 president, an inspiration to us all a great display of leadership and devotion to the rank and file, On the Union bulletin board publication Mickey glorifies Pietro, however nothing was mentioned about Steve retirement.

Hey Mickey, why the disparity both union members and both of them are Sicilian, What is the problem “bat man” care to explain???

BTW, when are you going to update the local website? What is the matter you, don’t like the latest message from our Secretary Treasures to the members? Can’t be the pictures of yourself and Hilda Solis. Come on Mickey show the curage of a true leader post the Workers magazine on the local website.
