Damn, what a difference a local makes: I read the 135 magazine fairly closely and i didn't see a word about the percapita increase. Just for comparison purposes, take a look at Local 789's latest issue with the convention coverage: http://www.ufcw789.org/pdfs/20.5.pdf

Hats off to 789 for dealing with it straight up.

The tip of my hat to Don, Jennifer and the rest for handling this situation in a transparent manner and including the membership. That is how all of the UFCW should be ran. Hopefully, we will get a chance to show them that it can be done that way out west also.

Amen to that, Brother Rick.

Thanks Bill Pearson for the link to the Local 789 newsletter...and to Don Seaquist for an honest presentation of the facts and language.

It would be an absolute hoot to see how many of the locals in attendance published the increases in their local magazine. We had a long standing history of telling members everything. It's their union, their dues, their futures on the line; so why hide stuff from them.

I suspect almost every magazine across the country had all the happy horseshit and pictures of Hansen and their delegates at work. It's just so sad what this organization has become.

I hope you get the chance Rick, but from here it looks like they are going to wear you down and leave you nothing but fond memories and dreams of what could have been.

They aren't capable of wearing me down. They can cheat, change the rules, lie and fail to do the right thing (or fail to do anything as has been occuring), but wearing me down is not an option.

Working to build a “new” UFCW

http://www.ufcw135.org/workers/2008%20SEPTEMBER.pdf

Working together we can build a “new” UFCW with a new spirit and attitude that will benefit all members. “Mickey Kasparian”.

The main logical reason why people change things is because they no longer serve the purpose for which they originally created.

The question; why the need to build a “new” union?

Ross, you were right about Terry Hunt working the best for me in my re-hire @ Albertsons. I got my back pay, all the way to date-of-hire, which I didn't expect, I was just hoping to end of my probation.Of note is Terry said Ralphs is doing everything they can not to pay returning experienced clerks what the contract says, in his words, " they are threatening arbitration, extracting their pound of flesh from the employee by threatening to make them work the 1000 hrs before a raise." So, I was lucky, I guess returning to Albertsons(former Lucky). I know Ralphs is going thru that lawsuit from the strike scab hiring stuff, I guess they are taking it out on the workers. How can you build a "new" stronger union, without returning clerks getting their previous wage(less 1 bracket after 5 yrs absence, or 2 brackets after 10 yrs absence)? This is truly the race to the bottom, (Walmart clerks or worse)... something has to change. I'll get another 50 cents after 1000 hrs, and I already have about 650 hrs towards it.They turned our lights back on for the night crew after I explained to the bosses, and Corporate decided on perimeter lighting off instead, so we have our isles lighted now. Several full-timers w/ 20 yrs keep getting shuffled around store-store as nobody wants that burden on payroll. Glad I'm on night crew, only safe place right now minimum 24 hrs, I get at least 30 usually.
Take care all. G.

G,

Rest assure Ross will always tell the true I know all of them like the palm of my hand, Terry Hunt is one of the best union rep in America. “Sad” Kasparian will take credit for Terry great work.

In the grocery business Albertsons is the best company to work for, they have problems just like any other company, but (in San Diego) they are more compassionate towards their workers.

In reference to the full timers I know several who are counting their days, can’t wait until retirement time.

I am happy for you that you like your current job; I know you are smart, my advice to you is to work with the system and soon you can move up towards management position perhaps you can be 4th manager soon. “Assuming” that you wish to stay in this business

On other news, Kasparian is working on posting the contract on the local website; he will have a special highlight section explaining how this contract allows new hire to have a career instead of a regular job. Very Happy

Not a word “yet” from UFCW Local 135 President Mickey Kasparian in reference to the per capita tax increase. The October issues of The Worker. http://www.ufcw135.org/workers/2008%20OCTOBER.pdf

Good morning, Ladies and Gentleman

It is with sadness that I have to report yet another travesty to my friends and coworkers at Albertsons 6801 in San Diego California.

Remember couple of months ago, I told you that one of my shop stewards choose to go to work at another store, to help the store who had workers on vacation, instead of attending the Annual Stewards Conference.

Well this week, the other steward was “again” yes again, two times in the last 90 days suspended without pay for failure to fallow company policy

Does are the stewards who are hand pick by UFCW Local 135 President Mickey Kasparian to represent the best interest of the members.

Funny how things work, aren’t we supposed look up to them as mentors, aren’t they a great inspiration?

One e-mail was sent this morning to UFCW Local 135 president Mickey Kasparian@
Mickey Kasparian" mickeylocal135@cox.net By a group of union members who are in desperate needs off union assistance “yes” I have a copy of that e-mail.

No reply yet, from Mickey Kasparian, given him the benefit of the doubt that he maybe out of the office, we will wait few days for a response or for action by the local to protect the membership.

Hey Mickey, you know me by now, do the right thing or “I PROMISE” you, let me emphasize, “I PROMISE” you, I will make that e-mail public records, no a problem. Capisce!

Copies will be sent to: OSHA, DOL. NLRB, CBS, NBC, ABC, ETC …
No action from you and it is a guarantee for you to get the “BOZO” of the year award!

Go Mickey Go!!

Gordon, tell us something, Albertsons is forcing employees to take vacation in one district, and in another district, they have actually reduce their work force because business is down.

What is going on in your district?

Did you drove all the way down to the union office, to get a copy of the contract? Or was your union rep kind enough to bring some to your store?

We know who our union rep is, but we never see him in our work place after 5:00pm, and when he comes to visit always offer the members a pen. “No copies of the contract” Twisted Evil

Ross, I wouldn't be too hard on the Union right now, OR Albertsons. Infact, as you predicted/confirmed, Albertsons re-instated me at $16/hr PLUS I now have benefits as of Nov 1. There is a great disconnect between members-union-store. Many co-workers did not even know the union recommended an obama vote. Many are too dumbass to know he wants to make it easire to unionize. These same employees fail to add ub the $5-6 additional medical-dental benefit costs on top of the wage. They don't read the union materials. Sure, the San Marcos north County San Diego office has the contract booklets, Terry will provide. Many members are not in tune with Terry Hunt and what he can do for them. Today, we had a produce guy on night crew, he was sent to La Costa store for a month thinking he would return, but they don't like his work production (he's not motivated) so they promoted a few clerks to 36 hrs/week to take his place, and now he's back, and only noght cre is available. Our produce senior got promoted to Manager at 6711 (San Marcos), he went there and then some regional out of Temecula stepped down, and took his new job at 6711, and now he is working 3 stores to get 40 hrs/week, and legally, he can come back to us at 6750 and claim his old hours. Business is bad everywhere. Store directors are being "stuck" with journemen and have to find a min 24 hrs for them, whereever. If whey want to get rid of them, the first line is "your going on night crew". Whoooo! I like it. These guys are not cut out for it, so, I guess I'm in the driver's seat, I think I can pick up one day a week at La Costa, Ross... Alan, the Director is double-duty at old Carlsbad store too, they are the busiest store in the area. Ross... the economy is really bad. Boxed pasta-spaghetti sauce-peanutbutter-jelly-boxed pancake mix all big sellers says consumers are not going out to dinner or breakfast, hope this sounds enlightening... to all,
here's hoping Obama can raise the level of Union respect. :~)
