Occupy Oakland: The Battle of Oak Street
Occupy Oakland: The Battle of Oak Street video Quote: Police fire tear gas, rubber bullets, bean bag rounds, and concussion grenades at Occupy Oakland demonstrators. In viewing this video it turns my thoughts to the following article For anyone out there that thinks the Occupy movement doesn't have any power and isn't making an affect, well think again. Our own government is willing to in act war on it own people and spend millions of dollars we 'supposedly don't have' to do so shows the power of the Occupy Wall St movement. We the working class needs to get behind this movement in any way shape or form we can to help it grow! Or!... We can shut up, put our collect heads down and continue to consume just like the corporate beast wants us to do! My vote this year in the upcoming election.... Quote: We have pointed out the great achievement of the Occupy Movement in shifting the debate in the US on the nature of the crisis and who is to blame for it. OWS has put Wall Street and its two political parties on the defensive and forced the politicians of the 1% to debate the nature of the system publicly to the shame of the heads of organized Labor who say next to nothing and offer Barack Obama and the Democrats as a way forward. The OWS movement has shown through the courage and tenacity of its activists that defiance of the law and direct mass action------ an example of the best traditions of the US working class----- is how we throw back the attempts of the 1% and its armed thugs to put the US working class on rations. Occupy Oakland battles cops but winning workers is what will scare the 1% _________________ I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one! |

Quote: As marchers were released through the weekend, stories of police misconduct emerged. Alyssa Eisenberg, an Occupy Oakland activist who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, was denied her medication while being detained. “At least two other people who asked for medication weren’t given it,” she said. “One woman had her cuffs on so tight that her hands were turning blue and she was crying. The way they treated us is exactly why I am involved in Occupy Oakland,” Eisenberg said. Other protesters recently released from jail report similar widespread abuses. Detained protesters were kept in painful zip tie handcuffs—some for 8 to 12 hours—were not allowed to access bathrooms and were not given medical treatment for injuries or illness—including someone suffering from HIV and another suffering from a kidney condition. Those processed at Santa Rita have complained of being kept in holding areas designed for a fraction of their number, in inappropriate areas like shower rooms, and of being harassed. Quote: On May Day 2012, Occupy Oakland will join with people from all walks of life in all parts of the world around the world in a global general strike to shut down the global circulation of capital that every day serves to enrich the ruling classes and impoverish the rest of us. There will be no victory but that which we make for ourselves, reclaiming the means of existence from which we have been and continue to be dispossessed every day.
