As I follow the various UFCW Local Unions in So. Ca. announce the recent Tentative Agreement reached with the Big Three Food Employers, I wanted to share with you the following Local 8 website posting.
Local 8's Negotiations Update link: http://www.ufcw8.org/index.cfm?zone=/unionactive/view_page.cfm&page=Negotiations20Update Quote: Specifically, the following posting, announcing the various locations for Ratification Meetings from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 to explain the new Agreement prior to Local 8 members casting their votes.
Mojave: Mariah Country Inn & Suites Breakfast Room 1358 Highway 58 Mojave, Ca. 93501 Bakersfield: Kern, Inyo & Mono Central Labor Council 200 W. Jeffery St. Bakersfield, Ca. 93306 Ridgecrest: Best Western Plus China Lake Inn 400 S. China Lake Blvd. Ridgecrest, Ca. 93555 Mammoth Lakes: Sierra Nevada Lodge Mountain View Conference Room 164 Old Mammoth Road Mammoth Lakes, Ca. 95346 What I found that was so interesting was the fact that these Local 8 Ratification Meetings are going to be scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Since I do not know the exact number of Local 8 Food Members who are part of this Bargaining Unit (Vons, Ralphs & Albertsons????) from the former UFCW Local 1036 merger, I can only assume the amount of members for this Bargainning Unit can not be very large? By comparison.... Quote: 32, 589 Members were reported on Local 8's 2010 LM2 Report So when we compare how Local 8 scheduled their Dues Increase Vote Meetings throughout their huge jurisdicition.... Monday, August 29, 2011 at 8PM in Chico, Fresno, Modesto, Sacramento & Visalia...... Followed by...... Dues Vote Meetings on: Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 10AM in Bakersfield, Merced, Petaluma, Redding & Stockton.... If I am a Local 8 Member I would have the following question for President Loveall!! Why were we not afforded the same rights / considerations, by allowing us to attend our Dues Increase Vote Meetings from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. as you afforded the former Local 1036 Members to vote at their Contract Ratification Meetings??? Quote: President Loveall, with 32,589 Members reported on Local 8's 2010 LM2 Report, you were fully aware of the fact that by your scheduling one (1) 8 p.m. meeting on 1 day, followed by one (1) meeting @ 10 a.m. the following day guaranteed very few Local 8 Members would be able to show up to vote at the various Dues Vote Meetings scheduled throughout Local 8's huge jurisdiction! BTW..... President Loveall out of the 32,589 Local 8 Members (approx.), how many Local 8 Members actually cast their Ballot for Local 8's recent Dues Increase? Assuming you have the courage, I would challenge you to notify your entire membership as to the specifics / details from your / Local 8's recent Dues Increase Vote.. Total Number of "Eligible" Local 8 Members who could Vote __________??????? Total Number of "Eligible" Local 8 Members in attendance at each Dues Increase Vote meeting(s)_____???? Total Number of Yes Votes (each meeting) _________?????? Total Number of No Votes (each meeting) __________?????? Total Number of Voided ballots (each meeting)_____??? Total Number of "eligible" Union staff (clerical / reps) who voted______???? Complete List of those individuals who counted the ballots at each meeting and who their employer is. |
