Regardless which way the truth dissects Assange, the fact is this has brought us to a crossroads where the people stand to lose a lot more of their freedoms or perhaps gain a little transparency and accountability. Yeah, I admit it's a long shot at best. But just how many shots have we had lately? This issue concerning the need for an autonomous web apart from governmental or corporate intervention is a crucial issue IMHO. I think we have to move on from Assange, Wikileaks, and the circus, and follow the lead of those who are part of our most trusted and quoted independent news organizations. People such as those who participated in the Symposium this past weekend. Without a neutral web, free from authoritative policy makers, what difference does it make if the leaks are redacted or not, or if they are even authentic or not?
I'm reading other whistleblower startup sites are ready and willing to take up where Wikileaks began and they say they can do it even better than Wikileaks. That's great that so many are willing and ready to carry the torch. But again, trust is going to be the make it or break it part of the information equation. First we need to have a web we can trust as a repository for our data. How does that happen? I don't know! But I am listening, discussing, debating, and sharing all that I can. It almost feels like the Internet should be it's own country, continent, galactic federation, or something structured like nothing we've ever had before...with it's own value system. A system based on integrity and trust rather than the capital we are all so accustomed to in the corporate world. If the web can't be considered the commons for all people to use freely and equally, then I don't see any future in the use of it, other than another form of entertainment. I don't need entertainment. I can go hunt rocks or listen to music anytime I want. _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." George Orwell |

Freed on bail – but US steps up efforts to charge Assange with conspiracy
Quote: US authorities have stepped up their efforts to prosecute Julian Assange by offering Bradley Manning, the American soldier allegedly responsible for leaking hundreds of thousands of government documents, the possibility of a plea bargain if he names the Wiki-Leaks founder as a fellow conspirator.

Just ran across this --> Frost over the World Julian Assange and have yet to listen. There's always room for skepticism but just reading the blurb I'm drawn even more to Assange's corner/story v. wikileaks is possibly a larger conspiracy. It's a matter of just keep reading in hopes the truth undeniably reveals itself?

Another WikiLeaks Cable from the Bush Administration by Micheal Moore Quote: ...The most recent secret cable revelation is in today's Guardian newspaper of London. It's entitled, "US Intervened in Michael Moore NZ Screening." Oh yeah, baby! New Zealand! That's where we'll stop Moore and his band of evildoers!
The date was July 30, 2004. 'Fahrenheit 9/11' was already a huge hit in the United States... _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

When a crime is being committed then you should report it right? Unless it's America doing the committing, in which case it'll hunt you down for doing so.
Editorial - WIKILEAKS PRESS RELEASE Quote: WikiLeaks today condemned calls from the chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security to "strangle the viability" of WikiLeaks by placing the publisher and its editor-in-chief, Julian Assange, on a US "enemies list" normally reserved for terrorists and dictators. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. There is no mention of why 'they' determined Manning to be at risk of hurting himself. Or is that one of those arbitrary judgments people in control can make and any rights violated have to and only recourse is to wait the process? That hardly seems like innocent until proven guilty - when did all that turn ass backwards?
