Impressive, very good statement…. Mr. Hansen, are you for real?

You are the leaders of the UFCW a union who’s main agenda is to systematically oppress is members, deprives them of a democratic process, and a union who is corporate friendly to the point that they union allowed the creation of a two tear wage system, and subsequently a creation of union members with government assistance.

Nearly 80 % of the UFCW memberships are part time employees who in order to make ends meet they need a second job, or become dependent in government assistance.

Mr. Hansen, next time you would like to make a public statement, please do yourself a favor, and look yourself in the mirror first. Next time you have lunch with President Obama and friends, ask them what happened to the promise that they made to us, the passage of “Employee Free Choice Act”

I see Hansen has very little to say about the UFCW members, but as always, locks his lips to the butts of the "solid" corporations!

Periodically I check to find if our "Leader" makes any headlines around the country. Here is a letter President Hansen recently submitted to the New York Times.

Quote:

Challenging Wal-Mart Published: July 27, 2011

To the Editor:

Re “Big Retailers Make Pledge of Stores for ‘Food Deserts’ ” (news article, July 21):

The White House’s decision to pay tribute to Wal-Mart for agreeing to open or expand stores in areas designated as “food deserts” was misguided.

Wal-Mart has a history of destroying good jobs in the communities it enters and creating jobs that perpetuate the cycle of poverty — leaving more workers unable to buy healthy food for their families.

Instead of honoring Wal-Mart, the White House should laud employers who are creating good jobs with benefits that can support a family and challenge Wal-Mart to do the same.

JOSEPH T. HANSEN
President, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union
Washington, July 22, 2011

If I may make a couple of comments.....

1. Is it just me or was SuperMarket News really.. really.. serious when they said that Hansen slammed the White House in his article???

N.F.W. does that come close to even being considered a "SLAM"!!!!

and.......

Hansen's conclusion: "Instead of honoring Wal-Mart, the White House should laud employers who are creating good jobs with benefits that can support a family and challenge Wal-Mart to do the same."

2. Hey Joe..... With what the Big Three (3) Food Employer's (Safeway/Von's), Ralphs and SuperValu in Southern California are trying to extract from our So. Ca. Members with respect to their Health Benefits, etc.., try not to give these guys any more Kudos in the future???? Frankly they do not deserve it!!

Hey Joe..... You might want to get up to speed as it relates to the UFCW So. Ca. Food Negotiations and how our Members (Actives / Retirees) are being attacked by your Employer buddies....

Retailers Commit to Open Stores in Food Deserts

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Several retailers committed last week to open or expand 1,500 stores in underserved communities across the U.S. and to make affordable, healthier food options more accessible.

Those commitments — contained in memorandums of understanding from Wal-Mart Stores, Supervalu and Walgreen Co. — were announced by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her Partnership for a Healthier America initiative aimed at eliminating food deserts in the U.S. within seven years.

It's called mocking JB, Joe's yet to pick up.

"food deserts"? That must be the pretty words for slum areas - where profit hounds historically fear to tread. Whatever incentive would convince retailers to suddenly change their minds.

The deal would have to go something like: You create poverty jobs to reduce the onus of social programs on the public purse and the public purse will insure your pie in the sky arbitrary profit margins - pick a percentage! We'll look good and you'll be happy - win win. Partner Joe might be upset because he was left out of that equation.

Watching them trying to pick shit up by the clean end would be a hoot if it didn't put so many lives in jeopardy. Obviously Joe is feeling a little threatened too.

I'm beginning to wonder "if" our UFCW I.U. President Joseph Hansen and Supermarket News are joined at the hip, or something????

So... once again,.... we have SuperMarket News writing / running another story about our Leader.

UFCW Critical of Debt Deal

http://supermarketnews.com/Legislation_Regulations/ufcw_debt_deal_0802/

SuperMarket News / August 2, 2011
By: SN Staff

Quote:
WASHINGTON — The United Food and Commercial Workers Union and its umbrella group, Change to Win, called the agreement reached between Congress and the White House to raise the nation's debt ceiling "a bad deal for workers."

"Congress has failed to offer leadership toward job creation," said Joseph Hansen, chairman of Change to Win and the UFCW. "This legislation threatens the social safety net that seniors, children and the unemployed rely on. Even worse, leadership has capitulated to extreme demands that will further threaten the economic security of regular working people."

Coincidentally, when you check our UFCW I.U. Website they are running the same story...

Check under Headlines:
http://www.ufcw.org/

And then we have President Hansen's "offical" statement about the Debt Deal....

STATEMENT ON THE DEBT AGREEMENT BY PRESIDENT JOE HANSEN

NO JOBS, JUST CUTS

STATEMENT BY CHANGE TO WIN CHAIR AND UNITED FOOD AND COMMERCIAL WORKERS INTERNATIONAL UNION PRESIDENT JOSEPH HANSEN ON THE DEBT LIMIT DEAL

(Washington, D.C.) – The following is a statement issued by Change to Win Chair and United Food and Commercial Workers International Union President Joseph Hansen:

"The deal reached by Congress and the Administration to raise the U.S. debt ceiling is a bad deal for workers. Congress has failed to offer leadership toward job creation. This legislation threatens the social safety net that seniors, children and the unemployed rely on. Even worse, leadership has capitulated to extreme demands that will further threaten the economic security of regular working people.

"Americans are working hard to rebuild the middle class – they are working multiple jobs, putting in long hours, and making personal sacrifices to help their communities stay strong. Workers deserve better from elected leaders with a serious commitment to job creation, not simply cuts to the budget. Economic recovery demands a shared sacrifice from Wall Street and the wealthy to match what is asked of regular Americans."
