Video is from Alabama resident John Wathen as a volunteer pilot flew him over the area where the oil rig sank. Officials have stopped guessing at the amount of oil leaking although some speculate it may be closer to 1 million gallons per day.

Thanks for sharing LY! I had to pass this on to others! What a depressing sewer these corporations have created for the world. _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." George Orwell |

As we have seen in our union struggles time and time again the Federal Regulators fail the people and organizations they are sworn to serve.

Tell EPA: Take away BP's billions in federal contracts
Quote: BP continues to stonewall the American people about the growing Deep Horizon disaster in the Gulf, even while the company is reaping millions of dollars in profits a day from its other federal leases.
The White House, the Department of Interior, and Congress are all crying foul, but they are not taking action to hold BP accountable. If the Obama administration is serious about making BP pay, there is a very simple and powerful tool at its disposal: the EPA can take away BP's billions in federal contracts. The Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to bar BP from receiving U.S. government contracts. Suspension of BP contracts would mean the loss of billions of dollars and effectively stop the company from drilling in federally controlled oil fields both on and offshore. Discretionary debarment is among the most serious actions EPA can take. EPA's own regulations allow the agency to ban BP from future contracts after considering "the frequency and pattern of the incidents, corporate attitude both before and after the incidents, changes in policies, procedures, and practices." Prior to the current Gulf spill, EPA had linked BP to at least four instances of criminal misconduct, and BP has paid tens of millions in fines for environmental crimes. According to the public interest investigative journalists at Pro Publica, the EPA is considering re-evaluating BP and determining whether the company's actions leading up to and following the Deep Horizon spill are evidence of an institutional problem inside BP that would qualify for debarment action. If BP is hit with discretionary debarment, the company would lose valuable contracts for selling fuel to the military and would be prohibited from obtaining or renewing drilling leases on federal land. EPA could also cancel BP's current federal leases. The impact on BP's bottom line could be in the billions of dollars. Neither Congress, nor President Obama, nor Interior Secretary Salazar have taken steps to truly hold BP accountable. It's up to EPA to use the regulatory tools at its disposal to make BP pay. The American people are outraged by the politicians' inaction in the face of an exponentially growing economic and environmental disaster in the Gulf. It's time for EPA to take immediate and decisive action. Sign the petition _________________ I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one! |

I think the scope of this ecological disaster is yet to be understood. Not only are we contending with massive amounts of very heavy crude oil, but the chemical concoctions being used by BP present their own serious dangers. Obama is either so confused as to effectively be a “deer in the headlights”, or he is proving beyond any possible doubt that he is nothing more than a corporate-controlled puppet.
The answer to this is twofold: Firstly, the federal government needs to take complete and immediate control of this situation. That means kicking BP operatives out of the region, and involving the technologies available via the US military and private corporations other than BP. Secondly, British Petroleum’s assets in the United States need to be frozen until the company has paid for all costs associated with the containment, clean up, and collateral damages caused by this disaster. This might be a good time to make creative use of RICO statutes. |

If ever a tar and feather punishment was appropriate it would be for British petroleum's ceo Tony Hayward and his ilk. Find out how they like it. One shot at life and the laws stand idle while assholes with the power of a paper dollar can come along and snuff it out.
There's no way these business heads don't understand the consequences of their greed and this particular disaster. The fact they show no signs or even interest in stopping or correcting or changing the MO would make them less than human. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Since the death of the eleven workers, there have been 71 cases of oil spill-related illness in Louisiana, and 15 cases of illness in Alabama..."Federal agencies responsible for monitoring the toll to wildlife reported Wednesday that 442 oiled birds have been collected alive; 633 were dead. The report said 50 sea turtles have been collected alive; 272 were dead." We are only seeing the tip of this disastrous iceberg now...I'm afraid the enormity of this monster is currently unfathomable, and it's size and destructive capabilities will only grow with time! _________________ "Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." Some friends just came back from a weekend in Pensacola and said they waded into seemingly clear water but came out with oil on their feet! Imaging that being your whole world!
British Petroleum will not be able to absorb this cost, stock has plummeted 40% ($140 billion)and assets are now worth more than the company. There was no real plan to address a catastrophe such as this. The government allowed them to drill in deep water with no real emergency plan, and the Gulf currents will soon enough take this spill around Florida into the North Atlantic. So once again we will get the shaft because there seems to be no way to fix this! _________________ Doug Slaydon has been active campaigning to reform UFCW Local 8. |

So tonight is Obama's speech from the Oval Office on this Gulf disaster. The talking heads on CNBC say the feds want an escrow of 1.5 billion and the president really has no power to take over the situation. What??? Is this playing out like some futuristic farce that a corporation has more power than the President??!!

Sea creatures flee oil spill... Quote: GULF SHORES, Ala. – Dolphins and sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water just off the Florida coast. Mullets, crabs, rays and small fish congregate by the thousands off an Alabama pier. Birds covered in oil are crawling deep into marshes, never to be seen again.
Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena. _________________ Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself. - Salman Rushdie |

The magnitude and impact of this disaster will eclipse anything we have known in our life times if the worst or even near worst happens...If the BP data correctly or honestly identified four separate reservoirs then a bleed-out might gush less than 2 to 2.5 billion barrels unless the walls -- as it were -- fracture or partially collapse. I am hearing the same dark rumors which suggest fracturing and a complete bleed-out are already underway. Rumors also suggest a massive collapse of the Gulf floor itself is in the making. They are just rumors but it is time for geologists or related experts to end their deafening silence and speak to these possibilities. The rest of the comment
