Due to an abundance of recent news and increased interest in this corruption story, I figured that the 4+ year old Mondo Condo X thread should be retired. Although the thread remains highly entertaining, informative, relevant and true... it's got better use as the must-read historical base for our next chapter: Mondo Condo: Director's Cut So where are we at? Well, it seems that Joe is still Joe. And Toronto's own run-down Mondo Condo... is now Toronto's own even-more-run-down Mondo Condo! Sure they put some beige lipstick on the 10-storey rotting pig located at 2737 Keele St.... and the units are actually kinda pretty (seriously)... but that thought is in no way helping the current unit owners wake up from their collective nightmare. Some time ago, we were alerted to a new website broadcasting info and news directly from the belly of the beast. A Westmount Condo owner/resident and his friends had been battling Joe and his pals on another online front: http://www.westmountcondoslife.com/ If you enjoyed all the old Mondo Condo stories, you'll devour the information, pictures and stories found at the link above. Not only does the site confirm all our prior Joe theories and predictions... it visually shows what a huge mess gets weaved when "businessmen" do nothing but deceive (with city council's blessing of course). Yes, yes, the courts have now told Joe to do this and that, and yes the city has now issued multiple (and serious) work orders for the property. But as usual, Joe doesn't seem to care. He has had his mind set on becoming a Toronto slum-lord for almost a decade now... and there ain't no stopping him. Anyway, it's a new thread. And that gives us an excuse to unveil some new mondo story-telling technology! With continuous news updates about the building being broadcast from our sister site, we've had time to upgrade our old broadcasting equipment. It is now possible to deliver what you've always wanted and craved... a high-definition video peak into the hellish world of the Mondo Condo! That's magnificent. Could have been a location shoot for the Matrix. I had no idea how much a few chopped vehicles could add to the ambiance of the place. It's hard to believe anyone would risk going into what is an obvious death trap, let alone parking a vehicle. Even more astounding is parking next to "chopped vehicles" - what is that? That makes me wonder about Phase 2 - putting a 10 story building on this crumbling parkade will have its challenges it would seem. But then I've never believed Phase 2 would be more than a large billboard. hawk - can't wait to see the basement. I'm sure it's extra creepy. One would have to be brain dead or maybe have special friends at city hall to evn consider additional stories over top the satan's garage heap. We know old Joe isn't any sharper than a bowling ball but it's reasonable to expect that at least one person at city hall would be. Which would put Mondo Condo's proposed "phase two" squarely in the just another condo scam section. E you must give us a heads up before you post the sequel. I can't see any intelligent structural engineer putting their name on any design to build on top of this crap! I guess the key word is intelligent. I'd hate to be walking in there when the next chunk falls down. Where were (and are) the inspectors. And that's one of the worst paint jobs I've ever seen. It's coming off from every surface. Who the hell did they hire to do work that bad? And the vandalized cars sure completes the horror show. To the budding filmmaker - nice touch adding Ozzy

Section 9 is a pictorial of the hotel which operated out of this building from 1975-2004. The UFCW's Canadian Commercial Workers Industry Pension Plan trustees funded the building's owners from 1991 to the present (among them a pedophile ex-priest, some hotel REIT guys from western Canada and Joe, the guy who did the crappy hotel-to-condo renovation and now essentially runs the place). Of course a great irony in this is that the union pension fund put the hotel workers out of work so that the conversion from workplace to condo could take place and still, it appears, may have a few million in loans outstanding on the place. Have any of the "charges" against the trustees been finalized as anything hrmful to them. I mean, have they been told to pick up trash or clean road signs? Where's Pappa Ron these days? I know that in December he is playing Santa so little boys will sit on his lap but what does he do these days, I mean, the children's party clown gig must not make him very much money. _________________ No Beast so fierce knows but some small amount of pity, but I know none and so I am no beast. ~ Richard III

I'm not sure if you guy's are referring to the hotel basement/tunnel or the parking garage basement. If it's the parking garage, there was some footage of it in there (the part near the end with the R-rated wall graffiti). That place along with the stairwell was almost pitch-black in most areas... definitely extra creepy. You'll see a shot in the stairwell where the camera setting gets played with, and the picture brightens up. It's that dark. The camera proved itself under the conditions (shot with a Sony HDR-XR520 using low-lux lighting). It was also one of the coldest days of the year, so I apologize for some quick zooms. Couldn't feel the fingers. We've got some footage of the hotel basement and the pot-head tunnel. The CCWIPP trustees sold their 50% interest in the hotel to Joe through their single purpose Propco corporations. They then gave him a VTB mortage for $4.3 million on really generous terms. The status of this "investment" isn't really clear at this point. The mortgage was discharged but the CCWIPP Annual Reports make reference to a continuing investment in a certain Toronto property. Even less is known as to what happened to the $30+ million in mortgages and loans from CCWIPP that were registered against this property prior to Joe's appearance. Some interesting reading and it would make a lot of since why the wrecking ball and bull dozers haven't been brought to tear this piece of shit down...to much to expose! You guys ever think of having a little public informational protest/picket out front? Could hand out flyers outlining the history and story of this place with directions to the uncharted thread. If you stirred enough commotion you may even catch the media's attention? If anything you'd continue to pucker a few bung holes! Just a thought.
