Dammit, I wish I had more video. This is too fun!

OK, dear mondo readers... we're now going to take you on a journey out of this world. Tonight we're in search of the lost Pothead Tunnel. That's the unused underground walkway that connects the bowels of the old hotel (or newly "renovated" condo, if you wish) to a staircase that ends up at the parking garage.

This was another selling point for the Westmount Condos. It was supposed to be a convenient route to the hotel from Satan's Garage for the residents (although it's would actually be a much longer walk for most - the tunnel was meant to funnel people into the nightclub, in order to bypass the hotel). Guess Joe meant this beauty would be completed once they build that road through his promised land (over and above his awesome earth hole). But at least he added some doors! Very creative. I would have went with an oversized apocalyptic silo door, but what the heck do I know about tunnel design?

OMG, it's the Pothead Tunnel! E you have truly hit one out of the park. The cinematography is wonderful. It looked so creepy and other-worldly. I felt like I was right there!

The part with the three entrance doors was also cool. So was the tunnel entrance behind Door #1, Door #2 or Door #3? Or do all doors in the CCWIPP-Westmount Keele project lead to Satan's Garage? Oh the metaphors!

This is truly a piece of local history. We should apply to have it and satan's parkade designated as heritage structures.

Do not watch The Pothead Tunnel before bedtime.

The Pothead Tunnel construction appears to end abruptly and there looks to be a large section of the underground excavation where the stairs and door to satan's garage should be, without visible support.

That's one creepy tunnel alright.

That was supposed to be a walkway for humans?

Looks more like a sewer tunnel.

Maybe the 'designer' got inspiration from the Paris sewers

Come back to the hotel "you love the best" and you can take lots of footage.

Videotape the back of the hotel during the afternoon rush hour. The traffic is heavy and very dangerous. Someone is going to get hurt.

The potholes in the back are like out of a Jeep commercial.

Parking enforcement tickets the Wynn Fitness customers with $250 fire route tickets, up to six at a time. (Fitness freaks are too lazy to walk to their cars.)

Then tape our lovely landscaping. That will get you laughs. And the fencing and the broken retaining wall and some of his cheap repairs.

There is more footage of the locker rooms and the stained carpets. Don't forget the water stains everywhere.

You are welcome anytime.

We hit a little youtube speed-bump earlier today in regards to song copyright. Warner Music Group has been throwing their weight around and messing with a ton of user videos, including the most recent one from us (and Sony has banned the Satan's Garage vid in Germany). Rolling Eyes

Disputing the copyright claims with this statement seems to fix things for now:

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use

Anyway, back to our regular programming. Very Happy

You've seen Satan's Garage. You've seen The Pothead Tunnel. What's next?

Well, if you just got back from the grocery store, parked, and have somehow survived the falling concrete of Satan's garage... you and your lucky shopping bags still have to navigate The Walk of Shame! This beautifully landscaped path to your luxury condominium has been recently renovated by Joe and friends. You'll be able to see their fine workmanship and attention to detail in the next video. The obviously ugly red carpeting from the hotel days has been replaced with some black markings and a lot of ice over concrete, surely making this a safer slide than the Olympic luge track recently offered to that dead guy. As for the old hand railings... they've been moved a few feet "beyound" reach. That way the bizarro nature of the Mondo Condo can remain intact:

Wow the Pothead Tunnel really does look like the Paris sewer! That's amazing. I suspect that's where the original architects must have got their inspiration.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how so many of the CCWIPP trustees' investment projects turned to complete shit. I mean, they invested $15 million in it in 1992-93 so that some turd bucket pedophile could buy it and play hotel tycoon and thank them by screwing them out of about $30 million (and that's just this project). If they'd really had a hankering to pour a few million into what was then a bankrupt hotel, they could have done it directly and set it up as a worker-owned business or a co-op or something socially progressive like that. But they didn't. In the end the workers were thrown out of work and a bunch of guys made a few millions on the next "sale". Now we have have dear Joe running the show and we can see from the pictures on the www.westmountcondoslife.com site what a dump the place is turning into. That's a shame as well because it could be a really decent place for people to live and a good spot for those who want to own at a reasonable price. But no...it looks like the place is being run into the ground just like the hotel was before. Just like so many other of the CCWIPP trustees' investments.

Let's see, there's the bankrupt resort in the Bahamas, the bankrupt potato factory, the bankrupt magic-themed restaurant, the bankrupt hotel management company, the bankrupt shrimp processing plant, the development land that lost 90% of its value, the bankrupt other hotels, the bankrupt fishery, the bankrupt dot coms...oh dammit, if I wasn't such a trusting soul I'd be suspicious that this was part of some business strategy that is popular among a certain group of entrepreneurs.

Here's something for your viewing enjoyment...it's what has become of the bankrupt Royal Connaught hotel in Hamilton - another one of the CCWIPP trustees' investments. I love this video, it's like a metaphor of what's become of the house of labour.

Enjoy...the aptly titled Decay.

Let's recap...

Quote:
IN THE SUMMER of 1975, Joe Ieradi was one of the workers who helped build the Triumph Hotel at Keele Street and Wilson Avenue. Twenty–eight years later, Ieradi is back to rejuvenate the structure – converting it to the luxurious Westmount Condominiums. “The beautiful thing about converting this building to condominiums is that I know the structure is very well built. I saw it go up – I was part of the original team,” says Ieradi

Wow, did this guy ever have faith in himself and the original workmanship at the Mondo Condo! He chose to ignore 28 years of rot, abuse, and non-renovations... because, well... that seems to be what normally passes for luxury in the real-estate world that Joe and friends inhabit.

After adding around 30 years of obvious construction experience to his resume, Joe came back to his first concrete love and sold it as a luxurious "renovation". Toronto city council turned a blind eye, while a bunch of unsuspecting condo buyers trusted him. Sure, a few hotel workers and friends thought he was cracked (and cheap - not tipping for his club sandwiches)... but why the hell would they matter?

We have previously mentioned that http://www.westmountcondoslife.com/ is providing some amazing and consistent on-site reporting from within the Mondo Condo. For our next video installment, we've borrowed some pictures from their site and visually 'expanded' on them.

So today we offer you a peek at The Innards of the luxurious Westmount Condominiums:

Great imagery E, for anyone who hasn't seen the mondo condo dive in person it's almost like being there.

I've been reading about pirates. It just made sense. Very Happy

Quote:
http://www.storyoforganizedcrime.com/

"It can be said that the first criminal organizations in North America were pirates operating off the eastern seabord. To be able to hunt down and pillage their victims, pirate ships required many of the essential trappings that would come to define organized crime: a reliance on violence, a nose for profitable opportunities, a code of secrecy among the conspirators, access to black markets to sell their stolen wares, and connections with the political elite to protect and even sanction their predatory activities."

"In order to dispose of their seized bounty, some pirates were part of a network of black marketers. These mercantilist "fences" included prominent merchants and traders, including some from nobility, who sold or bartered stolen goods and captured ships. As Michael Woodiwiss writes in his book on organized crime, piracy was an occupation that was "well protected" by the economic and political powers of France, England, and other European countries. "Pirates could not have carried on their trade without the support of merchants, gentlemen and officials, especially admiralty officials, and measures taken against such abettors of piracy were for the most part ineffective, since all too frequently those responsible for executing the law were themselves notorious offenders."

Fans of the Mondo Condo series (and most politicians) know about the pirate ship stationed at the corner of Keele and Wilson for about the last 40 years. Plundering the masses has continued unabated, but this aged ship has finally colided with the slow-moving city and courts glacier.

In the past few days, the city of Toronto has issued two new orders (search 2737 Keele at this page for the prior ones) listing 15 deficiencies for the main ship... and 11 for the Satan's Garage sloop out back.

Bonus points to city staff, www.westmountcondoslife.com, and the internet itself, for the "see internet blog" comment found in the investigation details.

Will Pirate Joe continue to ignore all the orders? We'll find out soon enough. The application for Phase II has been submitted and Joe would need a corruption miracle (Cliff-lord, hear our prayer!!) to get it approved, prior to cleaning up this current mess.

This is where Joe's years of building experience and expertise is going to pay off. How many gallons of paint and putty you think it'll take to make it right Joe?

The building inspectors did a good job getting on Joe's case.

Joe is starting to clean up the cheap and easy things to do. The expensive repairs he may stall as long as he can.

He can be heard at 10:00 AM on Mondays on CHIN radio flogging Phase II units on the elderly Italians in Toronto and telling anyone who is listening what a great job he did with the hotel.

Got to try to suck in whoever you can.

If he has over 75% sold why not build and have a model suite for the suckers to see?

For anyone looking for a good price on a condo, the Westmount has a lot of resales on the market.

Live the life of a pirate.

My sources tell me that last night, Thursday April 29, Joe Ieradi spent several hours up to 1:00 am in the morning shredding documents in his front sales office.

Strange. Normal office housekeeping is usually done during the day time.

Why is Joe losing sleep? What is he hiding?

What can all of this mean?[/b]

"Joe Ieradi ... ... shredding documents in his front sales office."

Knowing Joe like we do, maybe he's taken on a second job to supplement his meager mondo condo income and is working nights as a a professional paper shredder? Wink

"Kelly's Bar? Purely coincidence I'm sure. Not to mention the name did take off in Dublin.

Here's a little slogan for when Kelly's Bar finally gets off the ground. It's yours for the taking Joe.

Mondo Condo's Kelly's Bar - where the beer is hoffa the price.
