This is a beautiful picture...in an eerie kind of way. The only time I was in Vancouver, it was a bright sunny day. It looked so very different.

It looks incredible, doesn't it.
To give an idea of how high that fog is - The tallest tower you see in the picture is the Shangri La. It's 62 stories and 659 feet high (201 metres) - ninth tallest building in Canada. The tower on the left, with the blue light going down the side, is the Shaw Tower at 41 floors and 489 feet high (149 metres). That's the 3rd highest tower in Vancouver. I worked for a brief spell in the Shaw Tower in 2004 when it was still under construction. Vancouver has hundreds of towers and the fog's swallowed nearly all of them in this picture. Another tower I worked on in late '06 and parts of '07 while it was still under construction, is 31 stories high and I don't even see it in the picture. If this picture doesn't come up full size on some browsers you can find the full size picture here Looks great on the desktop. For a similar view of Vancouver on a clear day click here |

PT have you heard whether they've identified who took the picture. Last I heard was tens of people were laying claim to it. You'd think it would be relatively easy to prove and confirm. Unless of course everyone was on cypress taking pictures that foggy vancouver day. Sorry, that foggy vancouver 2 weeks.

The link I had posted underneath the picture disappeared so I added it again. There's a discussion there about who took the picture.
Apparently Vancouver's been experiencing a temperature inversion for the past couple of weeks, hence the weird fog. And some detective work about who took the picture has been done here Some other awesome pics of foggy Vancouver from different photographers - one - two - three - four - five - six - seven - eight - nine - ten - eleven And here are a couple of shots of photographers waiting for the perfect pic of Vancouver from Cypress Bowl - photogs1 photogs2 |

There was an inversion that day, my son was skiing. It was 21 up on the mountain and something like 7 in the city.

Here's another cool photo of a foggy city. Believe it or not, this is Dubai. To check out the original site of this pic, and other cool pics of Dubai, go here |

More unusual Vancouver Weather - This time it's the lightning storm we had on July 25, as well as the heat wave we've been experiencing the past few days. The source of the above cool lightning shot can be found here An even larger version of the same picture can be found here For more pics of the Vancouver lightning storm click here |

Wow - all these pictures looks so apocalyptic! They're fantastic. The photographer must have been in a helicopter for that first one of Vancouver. Can you images how scary that must of been with all the fog?
