I heard from some Chicago IWW members who spent last evening with the Republic workers. There is even some talk about the workers themselves actually taking control of the company and running it. I don't know if there is any foundation being laid for that at this time, but that scenario would be the ultimate dream.

Going back to the Blagojevich scandal, here is an interesting item which talks about his desire to hook up with the SEIU , and then making a deal to "run" Change to Win:

I suspect that he would fit right in, ethically speaking.

It was all talk, more dreaming than anything. Change to win would never hire him or even consider it.

Its an organization with almost no staff as it is.

Its amazing that the bank and the investment company came across with some money. The Governor must have had something to do with changing their minds.

Even some of the pundits are starting to see thru the affidavit.

NEWS FLASH!!
It's 6:30 pm Friday Dec. 5 and Suzanne Hoo Lee has reneged on her promise to make first payment of $1,500 to workers by today.
In fact, now she won't pick up her phone or answer emails.
Suzanne Hoo Lee...are you too CHICKEN to answer to workers?

It's UNACCEPTABLE that employers like Suzanne be allowed to get away with stealing workers livelihoods.
On Monday, New On Sang workers will be joined by others from Parc Hong Kong and Eastern Cafe restaurants, as well as other restaurant workers and domestic workers who are fighting for back-wages.

Hear the workers stories!
Denounce wage theft and call for stronger policies to protect workers hard-earned wages!

What's Happened This Week
Last Friday, Dec. 5, employer Suzanne Lee made a verbal agreement to pay workers back what is legally owed to them and promised to pay $1,500 on or before Friday, December 12, 2008 as a first installment. Following that meeting she began calling individual workers to promise payments of LESS THAN Legally mandated minimum wages!
As of 5 pm Friday, $1,500 has not been remitted to the workers, and Suzanne is not responding to phone calls or emails. "It's unacceptable that this employer is still trying to cheat us," said Mr. Gan Lin, former New On Sang worker. "We have to stop employers like Ms. Hoo Lee from exploiting more workers."

Why are New On Sang Workers Hosting an Immigrant Workers Speak-out?
For the past month, the New On Sang workers have been courageously fighting for back-wages. At a minimum, 7 workers are owed an estimate of over $121,000 in unpaid minimum wage, overtime and penalties. Unfortunately, New On Sang is not an isolated case. Immigrant workers throughout the food industry and others are fighting exploitative employers who cheat them of wages. On Monday, workers from Parc Hong Kong restaurant and Eastern Café in the Richmond district (now closed) will tell their stories as well as worker leaders from Young Workers United and the Womens' Collective. Over 30 Parc Hong Kong workers are owed over $200,000 in back-wages and penalties, where nearly 20 Eastern Café workers are owed over $40,000 (estimates).

Employers who cheat workers hurt the entire community: Bosses who cheat create unfair competition for responsible employers and lower labor standards for all workers. In times of economic crisis, it's unacceptable that employers further drive down the economy by short-changing payroll taxes and cheating workers of their wages and ability to provide for their families. It's estimated that in the U.S. over $30 billion are stolen from workers every year when employers fail to pay minimum wage and overtime for hours worked.

"As immigrants we refuse to be treated like second-class workers.
We will not give up in our fight for to protect all workers rights!"
–New On Sang Workers
